Toshiba Intros Portege R700 with 4G WiMAX

Toshiba introduced two 4G WiMAX-ready models of the Portégé R700 this week to meet the growing demand. WiMAX is available now in 54 cities and is expected to be available in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Minneapolis, New York and Pittsburgh by the end of 2010.

The Portégé R700-S1332W features the Intel Core i7 processor and a 128GB solid state drive, while the Portégé R700-S1322W features the Intel Core i5 processor and a 320GB high-speed 7200 RPM hard drive. Both include a 13.3-inch HD widescreen LED-backlit display, 4GB of DDR3 memory, an ExpressCard slot, an eSATA/USB combo port with Sleep-and-Charge, as well as a built-in DVD SuperMulti drive and Webcam. Super-portable at less than 3 pounds and about one inch thin, the Portégé R700 also features a six-cell battery with a long battery life. Read more

Gateway Intros NV59C66u Notebook with Integrated WiMAX

Gateway announced a new notebook in its NV Series this week, the NV59C66u, featuring 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, as well as integrated WiMAX.

The NV Series is available in two sizes: a 15.6-inch model with 1366x768 resolution, and a 17.1-inch with 1600x900 resolution. Both are LED-backlit TFT displays. They offer the choice of Intel Core i3 and Core i5 as well as AMD Athlon and AMD Turion, processors, include up to 4GB of DDR3 memory (upgradeable to 8GB) and have hard drives ranging from 320GB to 500GB.

Additional features include an HD webcam with 1280x1024 resolution, media card reader, Gateway's "social networking" button, a choice of either DVD or Blu-ray drives, Gigabit Ethernet LAN connectivity, and an HDMI port. Read more

Samsung Mobile Launches 1st WiMAX-Enabled Mobile Device

The Samsung Mondi is now available for commercial use. It is the most advanced Mobile WiMAX-enabled handheld device in the U.S. The touch screen Mondi, which is Latin for "world," is designed for use with the Clear Mobile WiMAX service from Clearwire in the activated markets of Atlanta, Las Vegas, Portland, OR and future WiMAX markets.

The Samsung Mondi can harness upload and download speeds that double comparable devices running on 3G networks while taking advantage of the widespread connectivity of Mobile WiMAX. The Mondi is also equipped with WiFi.

The Mondi is available in a solid black finish. This device slides open horizontally to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. The device also supports various services including Fring, Gypsii, and Windows Live Messenger, and comes equipped for GPS Navigation through Route 66, providing turn-by-turn directions.Read more
