Delphi Develops Mobile TV Reception System

TROY, Mich., June 12 -- Delphi Automotive Systems has developed a mobile TV receiver that dramatically improves reception. Produced by Delphi's Fuba subsidiary, the Gen II TV Diversity Reception System uses multiple in-glass or composite body structure antennas coupled with integrated amplifiers with its patented ScanDiv(TM) technology to provide superior worldwide color TV reception. The Gen II TV Diversity Receiver works with a four-antenna system that automatically switches to the best video antenna when the vehicle is moving. "The Gen II TV Diversity receiver system is an innovative breakthrough in rear-seat mobile entertainment," said Robert Schumacher, general director of Mobile MultiMedia at Delphi Automotive Systems. "This system provides in-home quality for vehicle rear seat entertainment TV systems when you are on the go."

In addition to multiple video antennas, the system uses an independent audio diversity system to always receive the best source for audio and video signals. The system is designed to receive worldwide TV standards including NTSC (North America), PAL (Europe) and SECAM (France) formats. The receiver uses a custom-designed tuner made exclusively for Delphi by Microtune(TM), Inc. The Microtune tuners are approximately half the size of traditional vehicle tuners enabling multiple tuners to be easily configured in the system.

Another innovative feature is a scanning system for an automatic spectrum scanning for alternative frequencies. The scanning system allows break-free reception of programs over long trips.

"The Gen II TV Diversity receiver system will be introduced this year in Europe and migrate to the U.S. market soon after to enhance rear seat TV reception here," Schumacher said. "The system will provide more options for rear seat passengers than today's rear-seat entertainment systems."

The system also includes two A/V (audio/video) inputs for the connection of DVD, VCR or other video equipment in the rear seat. The system includes interface outputs for two monitors and audio (RGB) interface inputs for two video signals (SVHS, RGB). In addition, the system comes with an infrared remote control with a menu that includes 12 fixed storage locations, 10 auto- store locations, station seek and brightness, contrast and saturation controls.

The Gen II TV Diversity receiver will debut this year on two European vehicles. For additional information about Delphi Automotive Systems visit www.delphiauto.com. The web site for Microtune, Inc. is www.microtune.com .
