New InSight Portable Hard Drives Display Available Free Space

Verbatim today announced their new InSight Portable USB Hard Drives. The two drives, in 320GB and 500GB capacities, feature an Always On display that calculates and displays available free space – even when disconnected from the computer.

Verbatim's new InSight Portable Hard Drives weigh less than 6 ounces, and measure just 6 in. x 3.4 in. x 0.63 in. The 2.5" drives have a 5400rpm spindle speed and also feature 8MB of cache memory. Verbatim just announced two new TUFF-CLIP USB Drives. Weighing less than 2 ounces, these new 4GB (turquoise) and 8GB (black) flash drives are not only convenient, but offer industrial strength toughness. The TUFF-CLIP USB drives are made of rugged plastic and feature a retractable slider that protects the USB connector. The USB drives also have an integrated carabineer clip that can be attached to a backpack, belt loop, notebook or key chain. The drives come pre-loaded with password security software for Windows systems that protects data in a private zone (which you define), while also having a public zone for open access.

Verbatim Announces New SureFire Portable HDD Line

The new SureFire line of portable combo FW800/USB2 HDDs is now available with capacities of 250GB, 320GB and 500GB. The rugged palm-sized drives combine power, convenience and the reliability of the Verbatim brand with a compact, sleek design.

The bus-powered drives are equipped with one USB 2.0 port, and one FireWire 800 port to deliver high-speed transfer rates of up to 800MB/sec. for FireWire 800 connections and 480MB/sec. when connected with USB 2.0 (without requiring an AC power adapter).

Encased in a durable black aluminum-extruded case with a fingerprint-resistant matte finish, the 2.5-inch drive features a 5400rpm spindle speed and 8MB of cache memory to optimize performance. The SureFire portable HDDs weigh in at 0.41 lbs. (186g), and measure 3.13- x 5.0- 0.66-inches (81mm x 128mm x 15mm), making them easy to transport from system to system and place to place. Also, these HDDs are compatible with both PC and Mac.

Making a New Gift Out of Old Memories

If you’re like us you’ve got a long holiday gift list and a short budget. Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales were fantastic but buying a consumer electronics product to give this year just didn’t seem right. We wanted to give something people would really like, really cherish. Money was important but it was really more about showing people we really cared.

Our son actually came up with the idea because he had begun the monumental task of saving all of the still analog photos and videos we’d taken over the past five – 10 years and was digitizing them to put on the family's Verbatim 1TB home server. It was great…huge capacity and supported all of the leading interfaces. Scanning all of the photos is time consuming but is necessary if you want to bring them into the 21st century. Converting VHS tapes to digital is a snap.

Our closet held stacks of tapes – birthdays, family outings, events with our folks, grandparents and the kids. We’ve known for a long time that there’s nothing permanent about tape and if we didn’t get the content digitized the moments, memories could simply…disappear!
