Island Outpost Resorts Better than Ever After Ivan

Island Outpost GoldeneyeSince Hurricane Ivan, Island Outpost resorts known for their interesting character and stunning surroundings, are on track to open for the holiday season. And while work is underway to bring the properties back to their original splendor, each resort is taking advantage of this opportunity to bring new updates and details to the hotels. With a focus on getting open for the season, as well as an eye toward community needs, following is an update on each resort.

Goldeneye in Oracabessa on the north shore, has remained open since the storm, suffering no structural damage and only minor loss of plant life. The ocean-front resort, famous for being the spot where literary character James Bond was conceived, is back to its original lush splendor. Beginning October 27th, Goldeneye is offering the first “Yogamat on the Beach” package, a five-night getaway with morning and evening yoga instruction by seasoned ashtanga yoga and Thai bodywork instructors Karri Jinkins and Ananda Adams. In addition to daily yoga, the package includes all meals and beverages, guided meditation, natural health seminars and a massage, with prices beginning at $1950 per person, double occupancy.

Strawberry Hill in the Jamaican Blue Mountains, did not suffer any structural damage but is receiving new furniture and new hardwood floors. All roadways are currently open and the landscaping has been pruned so that by the opening date of November 22nd, 2004, the gardens will be brimming with hummingbirds and local wildlife as usual. Upon opening, in addition to a refurbished spa, Strawberry Hill will offer a package rate that includes breakfast, dinner and transfers.

Jake’s in Treasure Beach on the south coast is also closed for renovations, opening on October 15th. This bohemian getaway of bungalows on the sea is placing a larger emphasis on landscaping as well as replacing some decks and adding new furniture in some rooms. The honeymoon villas that opened in early 2004, Octopussy 1, 2, and 3, will reopen exactly as new. Jake’s will also be adding some updates including an expanded dining area near the water and a larger deck space near Dougee’s bar. Dining at Jake’s grill will now be extended to sea-side with tables added to both sides of the pool in the evening. In addition, Jake’s is working with the Pelican Bar to provide materials for their reopening in a few weeks.

The Caves in Negril suffered minor water and plant damage. In addition to refurbishing the breakfast nook and re-landscaping, The Caves will receive an upgrade including increased deck and sunbathing space, and new cave areas. The first cave area will include a new massage facility and the second will be an additional cave dining area. The Caves will reopen on November 1, 2004. On October 15, The Caves Bar and Grill (called The Sands) will open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. each night for casual sunset dining.
