Hawaii Vacation Deals
For those looking to do some traveling to Hawaii, check out these great bargains to Kona Coast, Lahaina, Hanalei, and Honolulu.
Kona Coast, Big Island
This is world-class blue-marlin territory, and
hooking into these monsters can be surprisingly affordable - $175 for a
full-day share (Kona Charter Skippers Association, 800-762-7546 or
www.konabiggamefishing.com).
Kona is also home to Hawaii's best diving;
Jack's
Diving Locker (800-345-4807 or www.jacksdivinglocker.com) offers two-tank
dives
with lunch for $90. At King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel (800-367-6060
or
www.konabeachhotel.com), $148 per night gets you a room and a rental car.
Lahaina, Maui
With constant 25-mph winds blowing sideshore over flat
water, Kanaha Beach Park is one of the best windsurfing spots on the
planet. For the uninitiated, Hawaiian Island Surf and Sport (800-231-6958
or www.hawaiianisland.com) offers two-hour beginner lessons for $79. If board
surfing is more your style, head four miles east to the two reef-breaks at
Sprecklesville Beach. Afterward, rest up at the Lahaina Inn (808-669-3444
or www.lahainainn.com) for $109 a night; it dates to the early 1800s, when
Lahaina was a whaling boomtown.
Hanalei, Kauai
"Hanalei's different from any other mom and pop island
town," says Kelly Sato, proprietor of the town's Historic B&B
(877-229-8205
or www.historicbnb.com). Aside from Hanalei Bay, where South Pacific was
shot,
and the verdant, hikable 300-foot sea cliffs of the Na Pali coast, it's
the
prices. Sato rents cozy rooms for $85 per night, homemade breakfast
included. At Snorkel Depot, across the street (808-826-9983),
snorkel-and-fin rentals are just $4 a day.
Honolulu, Oahu
To explore the epicenter of Hawaiian culture, you'll need
the proper attire. Bailey's Antiques and Aloha Shirts (808-734-7628) has
more than 2,000 Hawaiian button-downs priced at less than $20. Besides
three- to five-foot waves - perfect for budding surfaces - Waikiki has a
vibrant nightlife; sip mai tais and listen to authentic Hawaiian music at
Duke's Canoe Club (808-922-2268 or www.dukeswaikiki.com). The boutique Bamboo
Hotel (808-922-7777 or www.aquaresorts.com/bamboo), in the center of Waikiki,
has lowered its off-season rates from $145 to $87.
