Cowboys & Indians’ Journey to Great Western Spas
The first spa destination is to the El Monte Sagrado Living Resort & Spa in Taos, New Mexico. This spa is exceptional because it is an all-natural tropical paradise, espousing wastewater into freshwater through its own elaborate system. The El Monte Sagrado, which means the sacred mountain, distinguishes itself as New Mexico’s most luxurious eco-resort.
Besides being earthy, the flooring is webbed with tiny water canals where shimmering goldfish dart by under your bare feet. The El Sagrado Living Resort & Spa is filled with waterfalls, small halogen lights, water-walls, radiant heat and a thriving tropical plant life year-round.
“We’re really walking our talk with sustainability,” said Amy McDonald, El Monte Sagrado’s Spa and Program Director. “We’re the most committed to the environment. There isn’t anything synthetic. It’s all a natural environment in a living spa – meaning that the products are alive, the building is alive and our treatments are one-of-a-kind with mostly organic products in the most natural spa environment in the Southwest. All of which creates a deeper opportunity for healing.”
Cowboys & Indians Magazine’s first Colorado spa destination along this Western journey is to the St. Regis Resort in Aspen, Colorado. The 15,000-square foot Remède Spa just opened in December 2004, and already has a world-wide reputation for high-altitude drama. The spa is suitably dramatic, featuring a white, beige and brown color palette with a vapor steam cave, plunge pools, and waterfalls, all meant to tap into the “Aspen Idea” of integrated health and well-being.
Only at the St. Regis Resort can guests sip the spa’s tasty all-natural strawberry water, or indulge in the spa’s oxygen lounge that allows you to plug in a nosepiece and indulge your senses in the purity of the lounge’s atmosphere. Guests may also get to rub shoulders with Aspenites Goldie Hawn, Kevin Costner, or Jack Nicholson. This resort in Aspen, Colorado is a world-class, elegant facility that can accommodate guests in any of their 179 plush mountain décor suites. And the lavish treatments the St. Regis Resort offers, include Complete Renewal Massages and Alchemy Vitamin C Facials, to name a few.
The June issue of Cowboys & Indians Magazine features several posh Western spas, with at least one that’s sure to suit your needs.
