Become a ‘Chef for a Day’ at The Seelbach
How often do you get the chance to go behind-the scenes of an AAA Five Diamond restaurant and get personal culinary instruction from celebrated chefs? Seelbach Executive Chef Walter Leffler, who originated his program during his days at the Hilton Short Hills, is bringing his highly successful program to the Bluegrass.
The Oakroom’s new “Chef for a Day” program invites guests to be a part of the inner workings of the hotel’s flagship restaurant and have a part in preparing the dinner menu for that evening. The day culminates when the “apprentice chef” sits down with family and friends to enjoy the five-course meal they created.
“Chef for a Day” allows anyone, accomplished cook or novice, to work in the kitchen with Executive Chef Walter Leffler, Chef d´ Cuisine Todd Richards and the entire Oakroom staff. During the sessions, scheduled every Wednesday at 2 p.m., participants will tour the hotel and then spend the afternoon slicing, dicing and sautéing their way through that evening’s dinner menu. Each “apprentice chef” will receive personal one-on-one instruction as they prepare food for the dinner menu. To make them an official member of the culinary team, the student chefs will be outfitted in their own white chef jacket, complete with the Seelbach crest.
Leffler, who often serves as an adjunct professor, loves teaching and wanted to bring guests behind-the-scenes and into the hustle and bustle of the Oakroom kitchen. “It really is a great educational opportunity,” said Leffler. “We explain all the ingredients; teach them prep and cooking techniques and share the finer points of food preparation and presentation while sharing helpful tips for the home cook.” Graduates are also given chef Leffler’s personal business card so that they can contact him when any questions arise at home.
The cost for the “Chef for a Day” program is $175, which includes the chef’s coat, the afternoon of instruction and the participant’s “graduation meal,” including tax and tip. Family and friends can join in on the meal for just $75 per person (tax and gratuity not included.) Only four apprentices will be booked on a particular day so that the Oakroom chefs will be able to provide personal attention and the full Oakroom experience.
The package may be purchased as a gift for birthdays, anniversaries or even the holidays. Please confirm availability and obtain reservations with The Oakroom prior to purchasing a gift certificate for this special event.
