Merrell Winter Moc
Discovering these inexpensive, funky looking slip-ons was one my big finds of the year. They are hands-down the single most comfortable footwear short of slippers. They're too funky to go with a suit but they go great with jeans, khakis, and are even water and snow-proof for winter weather. This is the future of casual footwear. $70.




Rocky Boots
The most incredibly comfortable hiking/urban boots I've tried. Much more comfortable than Doc Martens or Timberlands, the Rocky boots are standard issue footgear for more policeman and SWAT teams than any other boot. The inner "sock" cushions your feet in a loving embrace while the tough outer features leather and Gore-Tex for flexibility and strength. Perfect for urban professionals and kicking in perps' doors on "COPS". $170.

Customatix.com Custom Sneakers
This web-based company offers totally customized running shoes, casual sneakers, and even boots. Consumers can log on to customatix.com, choose their basic shoe style, and from there they can try out thousands of different combinations of materials, colors, graphics, and even custom logos and lettering. A virtual on-screen shoe reflects each design choice so you can mix and match to your heart's content. Once you make your final decision and place your order, it takes two weeks for the shoes to be made by hand in the company's Hong Kong factory and shipped right to your door. The shoes are much better in terms of quality and comfort than what you'll find at Foot Locker, and you get totally unique shoes for the price of generic Nikes. $65-$100.
