Nokia Luna Bluetooth Headset Review (video)

 Nokia Luna

Nokia hasn't been making huge splashes in the handset market lately; however they are developing headsets that seem to be landing on the 'favorites' list of many industry experts. We recently looked at the Nokia Luna Bluetooth headset, one of the many new gadgets they've brought to market in the last couple of months. Creative thinking went into the design and shape of the Luna. It looks like it fell right out of a spaceship.

The Luna includes a base for charging and storing your headset. Removing it from the base automatically powers on the Bluetooth and saves on battery life when it's not in use. When you place it back in the base, the Luna will power down.

But that's not your only connectivity option here. Nokia has incorporated an RFID chip inside, allowing you to pair it with a smartphone bearing the same technology simply by physically tapping the two together. Other handsets with built-in NFC, such as the Nokia C7, Oro, 600, 603, 700, 701 and N9, will all be able to play nice with it, freeing up Bluetooth for some other device to work with your phone.Read more

LG Intros Wireless Charging Pad

 LG Wireless Charging Pad

Last week at CTIA, LG introduced a new charging pad that's similar to the Powermat. The new LG Wireless Charging Pad is a mat that LG says will "revolutionize wireless charging as we know it." The charging pad plugs into a standard power outlet. Once plugged in, it will charge compatible LG handsets when they are placed on top of the pad without the need to connect any wires. It is said to fully charge a standard smartphone in approximately two hours.

The LG Wireless Charging Pad features visual, audible and tactile feedback when a phone is placed on it (so that you know it's in the right position on the pad), along with LED lights to indicated charging status:

  • Power LED - Blue = Plugged in
  • Battery LED - Orange = Ready to Charge
  • Battery LED - Flashing Green = Phone is Charging Correctly
  • Battery LED - Solid Green = Phone is Fully Charged

LG's Wireless Charging Pad (model WCP-700), launches in April for $69.99.

Why Shopping for a Cell Phone Case Sucks And What You Can Do About It

 Smartphones

Look at your cell phone. If you're not holding an iPhone, you're still a cool person right? You still have a personality and sense of fashion if you're holding a BlackBerry, Droid, Samsung or Nokia, right? You may even have a fun cell phone case on your phone. But, sadly, if you're not holding an iPhone, you're just a second-class citizen that barely exists in the world of retail gadget accessories and, even if you are holding an iPhone, you probably paid too much for its case. These are the conclusions the Retrevo team came to after a recent road trip to some of the Silicon Valley's Mega-Retail-Stores. Don't worry; Retrevo's Cell Phone Accessory Marketplace is the silver lining here, but first, the numbers.

Retailers Are Only Giving Lip Service to Shoppers (if that)

Our team visited several popular retailers including BestBuy, Fry's Electronics, Target, Radio Shack and Walmart in search of cases for popular cellphones including the BlackBerry 9800, The BlackBerry 9700, the Samsung Galaxy Captive, the Droid Incredible, the Droid X, the EVO 4G and yes, even the iPhone 4. Here's what we found:Read more
