Harman Kardon's SB 16 Home Theater Soundbar Delivers Big Sound

 Harman Kardon SB 16

You need big sound for the Big Game, right? There's a new soundbar home theater speaker system that's great for those who want room-filling sound but don't have the space for a standard home theater speaker system – the harman kardon SB 16.

Your typical home theater speaker system consists of five loudspeakers, a subwoofer or two, and lots and lots of speaker wire. Not the SB 16. It has a single amplified loudspeaker unit that connects directly to your HDTV, DVD player or game console, and a single wireless subwoofer that can be placed anywhere in the room.

The SB 16 soundbar features two-way, dual-driver, left and right soundbar speaker channels, each with two 3-inch (75mm) midrange drivers and a 3/4-inch (19mm) dome tweeter. The wireless subwoofer is driven by 100 watts of power and boasts a 10-inch (250mm) driver within a ported enclosure. The soundbar amplifier power boasts 25W x 2 into 8 ohms, 20Hz to 20kHz, at <0.07% THD, when both channels are driven simultaneously. You can listen in traditional stereo or harman kardon's 3-D virtual speaker surround mode which provides a complete surround-sound experience without any extra speakers or wires.Read more

Yamaha's YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector Touts HD and 3D Support

 Yamaha YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector

Yamaha on Friday unveiled the YSP-2200 Digital Sound Projector, a new sound bar featuring 7.1-channel True Cinema sound. This slim 3D-compatible sound projector measures just 3½ inches and includes height-adjustable feet, allowing you to place it in front of your TV without having to worry about it blocking the picture. The YSP-2200 also comes with a 100 watt subwoofer, that's small enough to fit on a shelf.

The YSP-2200 uses Yamaha's YSP technology (also used in the company's higher-end sound projectors) to create 7.1 surround sound without extra speakers. The YSP-2200's sound bar has 16 speaker beam drivers each with its own digital amplifier, along with a bass-reflex subwoofer. Together, they create multi-channel surround sound by reflecting the 7.1 beams of sounds off the walls and into your ears.

The YSP-2200 features 11 CINEMA DSP programs (three Movie, three Music, and five additional Entertainment options) and also decodes DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD audio signals.Read more

Boston Acoustics TVee Model 20: Great Sound for a Big Screen

 Boston Acoustics TVee Model 20

We first told you about Boston Acoustics' highly praised TVee Model 20 soundbar/subwoofer loudspeaker system when it was unveiled at CES in January. Worthy enough for a second look, we decided to dig a little bit deeper to tell you more about what this soundbar/subwoofer speaker system has to offer.

With the new plasma and LCD flat panel sets becoming thinner and thinner, there is very little room left inside for the loudspeaker. You would be amazed to know that the loudspeakers in some of these sets are not much bigger around than a quarter. After all, how big can a loudspeaker be and still fit in a ¼" wide LCD panel? That's why you often get a great picture from one of these stylish, thin sets but awful sound. Most people will agree that good sound and a good picture are both important and manufacturers have attempted various solutions to overcome this problem. Read more
