With 17 new models, ranging in screen sizes from 42-inches to 65 inches, Panasonic expanded its 3D line-up for 2012.

Panasonic VIERA Connect HDTVs Get Facebook, Twitter

Panasonic is launching a new Internet Social Network application called Social TV that will provide access to social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, directly from 2011 VIERA Connect-equipped VIERA HDTVs (and future models).

A new gaming application from PlayJam and a movie/video channel called BigFlix that gives users access to Bollywood Video on Demand movies, will also be available. These three applications come with no additional fee.

Panasonic also said that a new promotion will be announced soon -- in time for the holiday season -- that will allow users to download three games from Gameloft, including Asphalt5, free of charge.Read more

Panasonic Adds Sports Apps to 2011 VIERA Connect HDTVs

It's baseball time! Panasonic ups its game by adding professional sports apps for baseball and basketball on its 2011 line of VIERA Connect-enabled HDTVs. The company first announced plans for adding interactive sports apps for professional baseball, basketball, hockey and soccer in January at the International Consumer Electronics Show.

The activation of professional sports apps will allow owners of Panasonic's VIERA Connect-enabled 2011 VIERA HDTVs to watch their favorite teams live or catch-up on archived games on their HDTV. In addition, Panasonic said that "in the coming weeks" they will expand the sports offerings to include professional hockey and soccer apps. Details on these as well as additional sports, fitness, video streaming, social networking, and interactive gaming apps will be announced at a later date.

Panasonic Unveils 2011 VIERA Full HD 3D HDTVs

Panasonic unveiled its 2011 line of VIERA Full HD 3D HDTVs at the Consumer Electronics Show this week. The 2011 Full HD 3D line-up features 12 Plasma models (with two new screen sizes!) and two LCD/LED Full HD 3D models. The 2011 models also feature new crosstalk reduction, faster acting phosphors and include DLNA, VIERA Link and Panasonic's 3D VIERA Image Viewer, allowing you to watch both 2D and 3D digital still and HD video on a large HDTV. All 2011 models also meet Energy Star 4.2 requirements.

Panasonic also announced that they have changed the name of their proprietary IPTV functionality – it is now known as VIERA Connect. All of VIERA Cast's popular sites, including Netflix, Amazon VOD, You Tube, Pandora, Twitter, Bloomberg News, a weather channel and Skype are all there, along with CinemaNow, Hulu Plus, Napster, Facebook and sports sites including MLB.TV, MLS Matchday Live, NBA Game Time, and NHL Game Center.

Panasonic Hits the Road on 3D Mall Tour

Panasonic is hitting the road on a two-week, 14-city mall tour, giving mall visitors a chance to experience Full HD 3D entertainment. Dubbed the Panasonic Unwrap 3D Tour, it kicks off on December 1, 2010.

The first leg of the tour runs December 1-5 with interactive mall displays in New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The second leg of the Unwrap 3D tour runs from December 8-12 with displays in malls in Boston, Washington DC, Miami, Minneapolis, Houston, Phoenix, and Seattle.

The Unwrap 3D Tour will feature Panasonic's Full HD 3D VIERA VT25 and GT25 Series Plasma TVs, 3D Blu-ray Disc players, rechargeable 3D Active Shutter Eyewear, and Panasonic's LUMIX GH2 - the first consumer 3D camcorder with an interchangeable 3D lens. Panasonic this week added more Full HD Viera Plasma TVs to its lineup, with the launch of the VIERA GT25 Series. Available in late August, the VIERA GT25 Series will hit the market in smaller 42-inch and 50-inch screen sizes...and offer a smaller price point than the company's larger models.

The GT25 Series is THX Certified and has many of the same features of the VIERA VT25 (shown above) models such as IPTV functionality, VIERA CAST, VIERA Link and USB connectivity. Panasonic and Skype announced Skype on your VIERA on 2010 Panasonic VIERA CAST enabled HDTVs as well as the availability of Panasonic's Skype-enabled communication camera (TY-CC10W).

Owners of 2010 VIERA CAST-enabled Panasonic VIERA Plasma HDTVs (models VT25, VT20, G25, and G20 Series) can make voice and video calls from the their Panasonic VIERA HDTV using Panasonic's Skype-enabled camera (sold separately $169.95).
