Planning to capture video of your family or loved ones over the holidays? It is estimated that 22 million video recording devices will be given this holiday season (I know, crazy) and nearly everyone will want to tear open the box and start using them right away. But before you do, here are a few shooting tips that will ensure you get good quality videos to share with friends and family.
Five tips to help you take better videos:
1) Keep the Camera Steady: How to avoid the dreaded "camera shake"
Believe it or not, most camera shake is caused by something you really can't control -- your heartbeat. Using a tripod will solve this problem, however, when a tripod is not available, you can use your body to create a "human tripod."
Assuming your camera has a strap, drape the strap over your neck with the camcorder resting against your chest. Grab the camcorder with both hands and extend it in front of you as far as you can so the strap is tight against your neck. This will minimize the amount of camera shake you get in your videos and allow smooth actions left and right, up and down for shake-free videos.
For iPhone and other mobile phone users, extend the phone straight out in front of you, as described above, and extend both pinky fingers up as if you were sipping a cup of tea. Sure enough, this little action will stabilize your iPhone and minimize shake.Read more
