Sonos Gets Android Tablet Support, Slacker Radio and More with New Update

Sonos Wireless HiFi System owners can now use an Android Tablet to control music in their home, thanks to a new software update. And that's just one of many new features found in the Sonos System Software 3.6 update, which the company released today.

The Sonos Controller for Android app now has Android tablet support, letting you control Sonos from any Android tablet running 2.2 or higher, including the brand new Kindle Fire, HTC Flyer, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Sony Tablet S, and others (previously you could control the system with an app for Android smartphone, iPad or iPhone). New features have also been added, such as alarms, music library management and Twitter support. You can download it free from Android Market.

Sonos also announced that Slacker Radio is now available as a free music service on Sonos (in the United States and Canada), for access to over 150 stations with the ability to create unlimited custom stations to stream throughout the house. You can also choose to upgrade to Slacker Radio Plus for ad-free music streaming or Slacker Premium Radio for more features like on-demand access to millions of songs, albums and artists and the ability to create custom playlists. Spotify Music Service Launches in the US - Now Available on the Sonos Wireless Music System

Earlier today we told you about Spotify's availability on Onkyo receivers, now we're happy to say that you can find Spotify on the Sonos Wireless Multi-Room Music System. With a Premium Spotify account, Sonos owners will be able to enjoy on-demand access to Spotify's library of over 15 million songs. All existing Sonos customers have to do to add the Spotify service is subscribe online to Spotify Premium and then simply add Spotify from the "More Music" menu of any controller.

For music fans new to Spotify and Sonos, all that is needed is a Sonos player, such as the Sonos S5 all-in-one wireless music system, a Sonos Controller such as the free Sonos Controller for Android, iPhone, or iPad, and a Spotify Premium account ($9.99 a month). Sonos Announces Android App Availability, Software Update with AirPlay Compatibility

The free Sonos Controller for Android app is now available for download. First announced in February, this much-anticipated app allows Android users to control their Sonos wireless music system all around the home using their smartphone.

Using the free Sonos Controller for Android app and your Sonos S5 wireless music system, you can play songs from online music services, Internet radio stations, and, of course, your personal music library. The app also allows you to control the volume, play the same song in every room, or choose different songs for different rooms. You can even search for songs and stations by typing or speaking using Sonos' new music voice search feature.

The Sonos Controller for Android works on any Android smartphone running Android 2.1 or later with a screen size of HVGA 320 x 480, WVGA 480 x 800 or WVGA 480 x 854.
