The Best & Worst Things to Buy in April

 April 2012 Calendar

Winter is thawing out, and spring is upon us. So what's a good buy in April, and what should you hold off on buying?

Cruises
Typically, April is a good month for cruises. But we discovered last month that cruise prices in general have been dropping when compared to last year, likely due to the industry's tumultuous string of recent public disasters. In fact, when compared to similar cruise deals from this time last year, 2012's offers are as much as 11 percent less. And we have continued to see an increase in the sheer number of cruise deals as well, making it still a good time (price-wise) to look into a vacation on the seas.

Spring Apparel… Almost
The general rule of thumb is to wait about two months after a new line of apparel hits stores to start seeing some of the better discounts. Many retailers began to debut their spring merchandise in late January and February, so that places April at about the two-month mark for some. Look closely at the discounts though: a spring sale that takes 30 to 40 percent off is still a mid-season promotion; you'll want a sale that takes at least 50 percent off or more, and if you can hold steady for a stacking coupon code, all the better. If you truly want the lowest prices — which of course comes with reduced selection — you'll likely want to wait until May.Read more

Acer Outs New H6500 Home Theater Projector

 Acer H6500

When setting up a home theater, one of the main issues you have to think about is the amount of bright ambient light in the room. That's not the case with the new Acer H6500 home entertainment projector. This 1080p Full HD DLP projector featuring a 10,000:1 contrast ratio is able to deliver excellent color tone even in well-lit areas (yes, even outside!) thanks to its ColorSafe II technology and 2,100 ANSI lumens light output.

The Acer H6500 weighs in at just 5.6 pounds, measures 10.6-inches (L) by 8.1-inches (W) by 3.3-inches (H), and can project an image up to 300-inches. As far as connectivity options are concerned, it offers D-Sub, Composite, Component, USB and 2x HDMI. And, with multiple-PC source input, several PCs can be connected to the projector at the same time.

"The Acer H6500 projector is an excellent choice for the home with its ability to showcase Full HD 1080p video and superior color performance even in areas with bright ambient light," said Chris White, senior director of product marketing, Acer America. "Home theater enthusiasts can now enjoy film quality viewing outdoors at night or indoors without having to close the shades or turn out all the lights. Plus, the projector is easy to set up and use and is earth-friendly, since the power consumption can be reduced up to 70 percent." Read more
