HTC Rezound Android Phone Review (video)

 HTC Rezound

You could make a case that the Rezound phone by HTC could be the Flagship Android phone of the year so far. It ain't the thinnest, nor does it have Ice Cream Sandwich yet, but being the first carrier-branded handset in the US boasting a 720p HD display does set it apart from the rest. It's also the first HTC phone to incorporate Dr. Dre's Beats Audio technology. The HTC Rezound ($300 with a new two-year contract) is one of the more capable devices released in the past year. With robust specs, including a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor and Verizon LTE 4G connectivity, the Rezound could be the phone to beat for the rest of the year.

The Rezound sports a 4.3-inch, 1280-by-720-resolution super LCD screen, and it's not small in stature. It compares size-wise to the Nexus S and just a tiny bit smaller than the DROID RAZR. Having said that, this device is great for watching movies, live TV and playing games. It weighs in at around 6-ounces, which gives some added stability while talking on the phone.Read more

The Motorola DROID 4 goes on sale today at Verizon Wireless for $199.99 (with a new two-year agreement). Unveiled earlier this year at CES, DROID 4 features a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4.0-inch display, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, and a five-row QWERTY keyboard with edge-lit keys – all housed in a smartphone that's less than half an inch thin. In fact, according to Motorola, DROID 4 is "the thinnest and most powerful 4G QWERTY smartphone" available today.

DROID 4 runs Android 2.3.5 (upgradeable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich) and comes preloaded with MotoCast Wireless, an app that allows you to stream music, pictures and documents wirelessly from your home or work computer. Another handy app, Smart Actions, helps you automate everyday tasks such as automatically setting the phone to vibrate during work hours or dimming the display when your phone reaches a specific battery level, optimizing its battery life.Read more

G-Form Outs New iPhone 4 Cases that Can Survive 82 mph Slapshot

G-Form, the company famous for its demonstration of protecting an iPad from a 100,000 foot fall from the stratosphere, now has its first protective cases for iPhone 4/4S. In typical G-Form fashion, the company released a video of its new iPhone case taking some extreme punishment, this time using a G-Form protected iPhone as a puck in a hockey rink!

The cases for iPhone 4 are designed and manufactured in the United States, and are protected by RPT material - a revolutionary composite, blending Poron XRD material with other proprietary G-Form materials and technology.

"Our energy absorbing technology doesn’t rely on thickness like typical foams or hard plastics, so we are able to design both athletic and electronic protective gear that offers unbelievable protection from impact, but without the bulk of any traditional technology," said Thom Cafaro VP Innovations. "The new G-Form iPhone 4 case is a perfect example of this, with its sleek design and unsurpassed impact protection."

Two designs will be available - the "X Protect" and "Extreme Grid" - and each design is offered in both black and yellow. The complete selections of styles and colors can be found at www.g-form.com for $39.95. The cases are available now for pre-order and deliver end of February 2012.

Meridian's HD621 HDMI Audio Processor Gets 3D Update

Meridian Audio HD621 HDMI Audio Processor

Meridian Audio announced on Wednesday that its HD621 HDMI Audio Processor now supports 3D video formats, thanks to a firmware update.

Meridian's HD621 is the link between a Meridian system and the latest sources that use HDMI. HD621 separates HDMI audio and video, usually carried via the same cable, delivering pristine audio to a Meridian system. Meanwhile the video content is fed direct to the display via a single cable, eliminating additional switching. And now, the HD621 gets even better with its brand new firmware which adds support for 3D video formats.

HD621 also performs up- and down-sampling of digital audio, and includes Meridian's FIFO buffering technology to remove jitter and deliver a significant improvement in sound quality from all HDMI sources.

The 3D capable firmware is already being installed in all new HD621 HDMI Audio Processors, and is now available to all Meridian retailers and installers who can update products already installed in customers' homes.

Price Impact: OLED TVs versus LED-backlit LCDs

 LG 55-inch OLED TV

It's a well-known fact that new technology ushers in a barrage of deals on the previous-generation tech it replaces. We've seen that occur with processors, smartphones, laptops, and even tablets. But this year the stakes are higher as the TV industry braces itself for one of the biggest debuts we've seen since the introduction of high definition.

At this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, both LG and Samsung showcased their next-generation OLED HDTVs. As CNET succinctly puts it, OLED has the potential to be the best TV technology ever. And as the waiting game begins for the first big-screen OLED HDTV to hit the U.S. market (CNET estimates LG's 55" 55EM9600 will debut first in Q3), we can't help but wonder how OLED will affect prices of other TVs, specifically LED-based LCDs.Read more

JVC Announces NX-BX3 iPod and iPhone Nightstand Speaker

JVC NX-BX3

The latest in gadget news has to do with JVC's new tabletop home theater sound system, the NX-BX3 for iPods and iPhones. It's JVC's first 2x30W sound system for iPod and iPhone, and is designed to replace your actual nightstand!

Available in both black and white, the NX-BX3 has a weight of 20kg for a size of 500x300x110mm and offers all the features that can be found in other iPhone/iPod speaker docks. It sports an FM tuner and SRS StudioSound HD for around $400.

The next time you buy an iPod dock, ask yourself this important question: can I put a lamp on it? It can hold glasses or a flower vase on its top -- really, the sky's the limit (plus some general weight restrictions) when it comes to the things you can place on top of it.

The dock arrives in Japan this month, and will follow in the US this summer.Read more

Super Bowl Party Cleanup Tips

 super bowl party

The Super Bowl is great for fans and non-fans alike, the commercials are always a talker, but the mess from the party…. it's just a mess that needs cleaning up. Most of it can be trashed or recycled, but if the furniture is messed up, that can call for an expensive game plan.

So here are the top four ways Super Bowl parties trash your furniture and suggestions for cleaning it up.

1) INK: Your buddy uses a marker to write down all the wagers in the scoring pool. Except the number "12" gets written on the couch.

  • DON'T use dish soap or hair spray to remove the marks. The degreasing agents in dish soap can permanently de-gloss and damage the top coating on the leather surface. Hair spray has alcohol in it and will ruin the surface coating on your leather.
  • DO use a soft sponge and specialized leather cleaner. Buy it at most leather furniture retailers – but for serious problems your local Fibrenew franchise can help.

2) FOOD OR WINE STAIN: Your brother-in-law eats an entire pizza and drops a greasy cheese and his fifth glass of wine on your leather loveseat.

  • DON'T use window/mirror cleaner because it contains alcohol which will dissolve and destroy the surface coating on your leather.
  • DO use a damp towel to wipe up the mess and a dry one to finish the job. Fully-finished leather is pretty much water proof, so a little spill isn't going to hurt as long as you clean up quickly before it soaks through.
