Football season is here! Yes, it is just in the preseason right now, but before you know it, you'll be spending every Sunday rooting for your favorite team. And what better way to do it than with a new 3D TV? Sony just announced three new 3D BRAVIA TVs that are perfect for the big game.

Available in 60, 55 and 46 inch sizes, Sony's new NX810 HDTV models have built-in Wi-Fi, DynamicEdge LED backlighting, BRAVIA Internet video and access to Sony's new movie service, Qriocity.

Also, if you purchase one of the new 3D BRAVIA models you will receive two free Blu-ray 3D titles and a PlayStation Network voucher to download stereoscopic 3D gaming on the PS3.Read more

Sony announced on Wednesday that its 3D capable BRAVIA HDTVs are now available for pre-sale at Sony Style stores. Its new integrated Blu-ray 3D devices will hit retail shelves in July. Also, the company released a free firmware update that activates Blu-ray 3D capability for the previously announced BDP-S470 and BDP-S570 Blu-ray players and the BDV-E570 and BDV-E770W home theater systems.

Sony's BRAVIA line-up includes the 3D integrated BRAVIA XBR-LX900 HDTV, which features a built-in 3D sync transmitter and two pair of active shutter glasses and the 3D ready BRAVIA XBR-HX909 and KDL-HX800 series 3D ready models (3D sync transmitter and glasses sold separately). The line features screen sizes including 40, 46, 52, 55, and 60-inches and ranges in price from around $2,100 (KDL-40HX800) to about $5,000 (XBR-60LX900).Read more

Sony has announced they will offer owners of BRAVIA HDTVs and Blu-ray players the opportunity to rent "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" a month before it is available at retail stores.

Those who purchase a networked BRAVIA HDTV or Blu-ray Disc player and register the device between Nov. 9, 2009 and Jan. 4, 2010, will receive a free 24-hour rental of the movie in HD. The movie will become available on December 8, 2009.

If you already own a networked BRAVIA HDTVs or have earlier BRAVIA models equipped with the BRAVIA Internet Video Link, the movie will be available to rent from Dec. 8, 2009 through Jan. 4, 2010, for $24.95. Read more

Sony just introduced a new line of super-thin BRAVIA LCD HDTVs at CEDIA – the XBR10 series. The XBR10 models feature an edge-lit LED backlight, a contrast ratio of over 1,000,000:1, and also deliver 1080p wireless transmission of HD signals from a separate media box to a receiver embedded in the TV, so your components can be placed out of sight.

The XBR10 series also feature Sony's Motionflow 240Hz technology, an Ethernet connection, USB input, and are Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) compliant, giving you access to photos, music, and video stored on a PC or other DLNA server using the XMB interface and the TV's remote control. Sony jumps on the eco bandwagon with the announcement of its new BRAVIA WE5 ‘Eco TV’. The WE5 LCD TV sports full HD 1080p and will be available in 40 and 46-inch models this Spring. It consumes a whopping 50% less power than last year’s BRAVIA models by using a new micro-tubular Hot Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (HCFL) backlight and a Presence Sensor that detects boy heat and movement of people in the room. If you leave, the sensor activates a ‘picture off’ mode while leaving the sound on. As soon as you return, the picture comes back on. Do you have a tendency to fall asleep in front of the TV? No worries, the WE5 automatically switches to standby after 30 minutes.

Other energy saving features include a new Energy Saving Switch that cuts electricity bills even more. TV’s, even when in standby mode still use some power, but the WE5 has a switch to turn the set off completely. Switch it back on again and the TV returns to its previous state. Much easier than unplugging the TV when you’re not watching it. The operation manual is even on-screen…no more printed paper instructions. Read more

Not really … I wrote about the Slacker radio the other day, and now Sony has a press release about Slacker. Randy Waynick, SVP of Sony Electronics’ Home Products Division said recently, “Internet content is expanding faster than ever and Sony is bringing it straight to BRAVIA televisions.”

It is about time, right? To explain what Slacker is briefly … internet radio that you control with DVR functionality. It is more than that, and Sony recognizes this value that it can bring to its core consumers. What stands out to me about this partnership is that Sony rarely (if ever) partners with another company. Something else to take note is the Sony BRAVIA is also integrating Howcast into this strategic partnership.
