December is a month when you almost can't avoid shopping. You may have skipped Black Friday — overwhelmed by the hassle, hype and crowds — but the holiday season is a different beast all together.

Keep your holiday cheer level high by shopping wisely. The editors over at dealnews have poured over their extensive archives of sales, coupons and individual products from years past to guide you in your quest for the savviest purchases in December.

Buy a Bike, Use it Later?
For many of our northernmost readers, bike riding in the winter is implausible, but you should consider purchasing a bike this month all the same. While other months might have seen greater volume of bicycle deals, we saw the most Editors' Choice-level bargains during the month of December last year from vendors like REI, Walmart, and Performance Bike. Otherwise, the next time we saw a substantial number of deals and sales came in May.

Get Good Deals on Toys ... by Still Waiting
Finally, it's the best time to buy holiday toys! Almost. As we've mentioned before, many toys will hit their lowest price points of the season as we get closer we get to Christmas. Last year, many of the tops toys of the season hit their lowest points in the week before Christmas. That said, during the week before that, we saw a staggering number of Editors' Choice toy deals on the whole; in fact, it was the best week of the month for top-shelf discounts on toys. SANYO Unveils its eneloop bike at CES 2010

January 7, 2010 – SANYO today unveiled its eneloop bike (a hybrid pedal assist electric bicycle) to the United States mass market at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, with this "Synergetic Hybrid Bicycle" as its initial model for the U.S.

SANYO's eneloop bike was selected as a "Best of Innovations" award winner by the Consumer Electronics Association for CES 2010 and received the highest overall score in the Eco-Design and Sustainable Technology category.

Introduced by SANYO in Japan in December 2008, the eneloop bike is a 26-inch, three-speed regenerative, pedal-assist hybrid electric bicycle. As such, riders can propel the eneloop bike under their own power or can engage the bike’s motor and electrical system to pedal in one of three assist modes – standard, power-up or auto – where the front hub-based motor helps the bicycle and rider travel forward. World's First Electric Tandem Bicycle

PEDEGO tandem e-bike

PEDEGO just unveiled the world's first electric tandem bicycle. The PEDEGO tandem e-bike features two wide, cushioned seats, relaxed handlebars and a rear motor. It operates a lot like a regular tandem bicycle but uses a parallel electric drive system that includes a 750 watt motor and 48 volt lithium manganese battery. The battery will last about 15,000 miles and costs less than 10 cents to recharge. The throttle is controlled by the rear rider gently revving the right handlebar grip.

"PEDEGO fuses fashion and fun with electric bike technology, so we're thrilled to be the first company to offer a cool tandem bike with electric components," said Don DiCostanzo, co- founder and CEO of PEDEGO. "As interest in electric bikes continues to grow both here and abroad, PEDEGO remains committed to offering consumers unique, quality bicycles available in stylish designs with customizable options."

The PEDEGO electric tandems will be available in time for the holiday season for about $2,300.

Zero-emission, All-Electric Bike Now Available

Zero MX

This is not the same electric bike I mentioned a week or so ago. This one, the Zero MX, was developed by Zero Motorcycles and is targeted more towards motocross and track riding, while still expelling no emissions.

Zero Motorcycles has said that the MX will enable riders to jump higher and land softer, with a beefier front-end and a "custom rear shock that gives riders a fully adjustable spring preload and easily tuned damping."Read more

Elmoto

The Elmoto is a cross between a mountain bike and a motorcycle. It is powered by a 2KW engine that should last you up to 65km on a single battery charge. The aluminum frame only weighs 45kg, which should allow you to travel at a top speed of almost 45km/h.

Technically, the Elmoto is a "green" vehicle, because it doesn't emit any carbon dioxide. The developers are hoping to sell around 100 bikes before the end of this year. Then, they hope to increase their marketing and go global, to make 2010 a big year for sales.

The Elmoto costs $5,700 and is currently only available in Europe. So, would you buy something like this to help save on gas, or too be more "Green"?
