Nexus S 4G First to Get Google Wallet

 Google Wallet

Google Wallet is here. Sprint and Google announced this week that Nexus S 4G owners can now make purchases from their smartphone using the Google Wallet app. Sprint is the first carrier and Nexus S 4G is the first phone in the United States to feature this service.

Google Wallet is a free Android app that stores virtual versions of your credit cards, offers and loyalty cards on your smartphone. It is designed to ensure safe, secure payments. The app requires users to set up a Google Wallet PIN that must be entered before making a purchase to prevent unauthorized access and payments. At this time, Google Wallet supports Citi MasterCard credit cards and the Google Prepaid MasterCard. Google plans to support additional cards in the future. Participating merchants can be found by using MasterCard’s PayPass locator app for Android or by visiting www.google.com/wallet/where-it-works.html.

To get Google Wallet, Sprint Nexus S 4G owners must download the latest version of Android software. Once downloaded, the Wallet app can be launched. Read more

What's NFC?
NFC, which stands for Near Field Communication, puts a chip in devices, like cell phones, that makes it possible to, not only use your phone to make purchases in a store, but ultimately replace a lot of other things you normally carry around in your wallet like a bus pass, library card, insurance cards, and lots of other things. The first major implementation of NFC in the U.S. will be primarily as a payment method when Google wallet roles out trials this summer in San Francisco and New York. The big question of whether or not Apple will put NFC in the rumored iPhone 4S remains unanswered and at this point.Read more

Google Unveils Google Wallet

 Google Wallet

At an event in New York City today, Google, along with Citi, MasterCard, First Data and Sprint unveiled Google Wallet, an app that will make your smartphone your wallet. Using the Google Wallet app, you'll be able to store your credit cards, offers, loyalty cards and gift cards – all on your phone. When you tap to make a payment, your phone will also automatically redeem offers and earn loyalty points. Google says that eventually boarding passes, tickets, ID and keys could be stored in Google Wallet.

At launch, Google Wallet will support both Citi MasterCard (via MasterCard's paypass network) and a Google Prepaid Card. Google Wallet will also sync your Google Offers, (Google's "deal of the day" special, sent via email) which you'll be able to redeem via NFC at participating SingleTap™ merchants, or by showing the barcode as you check out.

When Wallet officially launches this summer, you'll be able to use it at Walgreens, Subway, CVS, Macy's, American Eagle and many additional retailers. Google Wallet will be compatible with Sprint's Nexus S 4G by Google, expanding support to additional phones in the future.
