Kindle for Mac Now Available

Amazon.com today announced "Kindle for Mac," a free app that lets readers enjoy Kindle books on their Mac computers. Kindle books can now be read on the Kindle, Kindle DX, iPhone, iPod touch, BlackBerry, PC and Mac, and soon the iPad.

With Kindle for Mac, readers can:

  • Purchase, download, and read hundreds of thousands of books available in the Kindle Store
  • Access their library of previously purchased Kindle books stored on Amazon's servers for free
  • Choose from 10 different font sizes and adjust words per line
  • Whispersync technology automatically synchronizes bookmarks and last page read
  • View notes and highlights marked on Kindle, Kindle DX, and Kindle for iPhone
  • Read books in full color including children's books, cookbooks, travel books and textbooks

New TiVo Premiere Streams Netflix, Amazon VOD, Blockbuster

TiVo just announced a box that does it all, the TiVo Premiere DVR. Available in April in two versions, the TiVo Premiere and TiVo Premiere XL, the boxes can access cable programming, movies, web videos, and music.

With the new TiVo Premiere, you can watch and search for movies from Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand and Blockbuster On Demand; view YouTube videos, listen to Pandora radio (in the coming months) and more.

The TiVo Premiere box has up to 45 hours of HD storage space or up to 400 hours of standard definition programming. The TiVo Premiere XL box holds up to 150 hours of HD or up to 1350 hours of standard definition programming. Both boxes will be available in April, with the Premiere priced at $299.99 and the Premiere XL $499.99.

Two new accessories were also announced; the TiVo Wireless N adapter which allows for faster downloads and content streaming and a new QWERTY TiVo remote. Both will be available in May. Read more

Amazon just announced "Kindle for BlackBerry," a new app available for download from Amazon.com that gives BlackBerry users access to over 420,000 books on their device.

Amazon uses Whispersync technology to save and sync bookmarks across the Kindle, Kindle DX, iPhone, iPod touch, PC, BlackBerry and soon, Mac and iPad, so users reading material can be taken anywhere without ever losing their place.

Samsung just announced that Amazon Video On Demand is available on select Samsung HDTVs via a downloadable widget. Also, Blockbuster's Video On Demand service is now on select 2009 Samsung HDTVs, Blu-ray Players and Blu-ray integrated Home Theater Systems.

Owners of Samsung LCD and Plasma HDTVs Series 650 and above and Samsung LED HDTVs Series 7000 and above can download the Amazon Video On Demand widget for free using the Internet@TV – Content Service feature on their HDTVs.

Specific models featuring the BLOCKBUSTER On Demand service include Samsung Series 650 and above LCD and Plasma HDTVs and Series 7000 and above LED HDTVs. Amazon Lowers Price on Kindle, Intros International Version

Amazon announced yesterday they are lowering the price of the Kindle to $259, down from $299. Also, they added a new Kindle to the line-up—Kindle with U.S. & International Wireless. With the new model, you can wirelessly download content in over 100 countries and territories. It is available for pre-order now for $279 at www.amazon.com/kindle and it ships October 19.

The Kindle with U.S. & International Wireless is just over a third of an inch thin (0.36 inches) and weighs around 10 ounces. The device features a 6-inch electronic ink display, 2GB of memory to hold about 1500 books, and has an experimental Text-To-Speech feature, where the Kindle can read most newspapers, magazines, blogs, and books out loud to you. You can also choose between six different text sizes. Need to make notes, highlight an entry or add a bookmark? You can do that as well.
