Powermat Launches Gen 2 Line

Powermat 2X Portable Mat and Powercube

Powermat this week unveiled its second generation line of products after just one year of the company's launch. Powermat listened to consumers and created its Gen 2 line to be super slim (just 1.6mm, down from 3.4mm) and form-fitting. Also, with the Gen 2 line, no longer do you have to plug and unplug the device. Simply pop on the receiver once, then drop and charge. Receivers are available for popular smartphones including the iPhone 4, HTC EVO, HTC HD2, Motorola Droid X, Blackberry Bold 9700 series, Blackberry Curve 8500/9300 series and Nokia N97. And iPhone 4 users…the receiver also doubles as a protective case!

Each of the new receivers are sold either individually or as part of a complete charging solution that includes a single position mat and its own power supply.

"Just one year ago, we introduced the world to the ease and convenience of wireless charging. Our success has directly resulted from the consumers' need to be connected at all times and to always have their devices charged," said Ran Poliakine, CEO. "Our current line was developed with significant consumer input and what consumers demanded were three things: slimmer receivers, broader device support, and a completely wireless solution for when there are no outlets in sight. We're delighted to deliver on all three fronts."Read more

Rockin' to Some Home Office and Garage Band Power Solutions

Belkin Mini Surge Protector with USB Charger

When I'm not working in my home office, I'm in a garage band. Like many bands today, we use our iPods, iPhones and MP3 players to queue up songs we want to cover. We take the player into the garage, plug it into the PA or boom box, and listen to the tunes.

We'll play tunes from the player over the PA before a gig or between sets to get or keep fans in the mood.

I went to play some tunes to the other day and my iPod's battery indicator was in the red.

I searched the house for a charger, but my kids had them all hidden away who knows where (I had iPod cables, but no transformer that plugs into the wall). And my laptop was packed away, so I couldn't charge the iPod through the PC's USB.

Which left me with exactly squat as far as charging options for my iPod. Except for one: My Belkin Mini Surge Protector with USB Charger ($24.99).

The portable device features three AC outlets and two powered USB outlets. These are perfect for MP3 players and mobile phones (but, Belkin warns, the USB outlets are not USB hubs – meaning they will not connect two USB devices or transmit any data).Read more
