Best Buy Gives Instant Rebate on New Palm Pre

 Palm Pre

Are you wanting to get your hands on the new Palm Pre, but don't want to go through the hassle of mailing in the form for your $100 rebate? Then head on over to your local Best Buy. They announced earlier this week that they will offer an instant $100 rebate on the Palm Pre (in stores on June 6th).

The Palm Pre, available only on Sprint, runs on the Palm webOS Operating System and features a 3.1-inch touch screen, QWERTY keyboard, built-in GPS, 3.0 megapixel camera, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, 7GB of internal storage and more…

It will be available at Best Buy on June 6th for $199.99 (after $100 instant rebate and new 2-year agreement). I have heard that Radio Shack will also be offering the instant rebate. The Pre will be available at other retailers on the same date, but you'll have to mail the rebate form in and wait (and wait…and wait….) to get your money back.

Phone + WiFi Hotspot = the New Atheros AR6002

 Atheros Ar6002

Yes, you can make a call on your phone, but can you use it as a WiFi hotspot? Not too many people can say they can. The Atheros Ar6002 phone can serve as a wireless access point when its "AP Mode" is activated.

"Atheros AP Mode is capable of concurrently connecting as many as eight Wi-Fi enabled devices in an open network environment, or up to six devices in a secured network. The clients connect to the mobile handset in AP Mode in the same way they would to a WLAN AP or router."

Some other features you can expect to get with the AR6002 include an 8.1 megapixel camera, HSDPA / WLAN models and a 3.2-inch touchscreen with 854 x 480 resolution.

Currently there is no information on when this device will be released in the world or for how much.

Official: Palm Pre launching June 6th at $200!

 Palm Pre

Sprint has finally announced the Palm Pre for a June 6th release. It will cost you $200 after signing a two-year contract and cashing in a $100 rebate. The Palm Pre will run on Sprint's 3G network and will feature Palm Synergy.

Palm Synergy features:

  • Linked contacts – a single view that links your contacts from a variety of sources, so accessing them is easier than ever.
  • Layered calendars – Your calendars can be seen on their own or layered together in a single view, combining work, family, friends, sports teams, or other interests.
  • Combined messaging – Synergy lets you see all your conversations with the same person in a chat-style view, even if it started in IM and you want to reply with text messaging. You can also see who's active in a buddy list right from contacts or e-mail, and start a new conversation with just one touch.

The Palm Pre will be available for purchase at Sprint, Best Buy, Radio Shack and Wal-mart. Currently, the Palm Pre is slated for a U.S. release only. There is no word, yet, on an international release.

The Alias 2 from Samsung and Verizon

 Samsung Alias 2

I like the dual-hinge on this phone. It makes you think your little phone is from a spy movie, or James Bond lab. The dual-hinge actually serves a purpose of revealing a QWERTY keyboard, and displays a widescreen. The 2.0 megapixel camera is good for still and video capture, and it sports Bluetooth too. The Alias 2 supports RemoSync, so those corporate folks can sync their emails and contacts with ease.

The Alias 2 has what Samsung and Verizon call "Lifestyle Features" which are; VZ Navigator, Visual Voicemail, Mobile Web, Mobile Email, and a Personal Organizer with Calendar, Currency Converter, Notepad, Alarm Clock, World Clock and a Stopwatch. The Media Center capabilities provide functions to allow game downloads, ringtones, wallpapers, location-based services and a few more functions.

The Samsung Alias 2 has an MSRP of $79.99 (which is the NET price after the $50 mail-in rebate). Expect a two-year costumer agreement. The rebate comes in the form of a debit card, so that you can easily spend this money. The "Lifestyle Features" do come with a price, and range from $2.99 per month to $9.99 per month.
