Panasonic Intros 3D Full HD Plasma Home Theater System

Panasonic 3D TV January 8, 2009 – Panasonic just announced the U.S. debut of its world's first 3D Full HD Plasma Home Theater System (3D FHD) this week at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2009. The system made its world debut at CEATEC JAPAN 2008 in October 2008 to very strong reviews.

Panasonic’s 3D Full HD Plasma Home Theater System enables the viewing of true-to-life 3D FHD images by using a Panasonic 103-inch Plasma HDTV and a Panasonic Blu-ray Disc (BD) player, capable of distributing full High Definition (1920 x 1080 pixels) images to the left eye and right eye.

“This goes well beyond conventional 3D and Panasonic is fully committed to making it a reality, and soon,” said Bob Perry, Executive Vice President, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company. “Plasma is currently the only TV capable of delivering a 3D Full HD experience due in great part to its ability to refresh at a speed which enables multiple image display without loss of resolution. The integration of Hollywood’s 3D content with Panasonic’s industry leading Plasma, Blu-ray and 3D FHD technologies deliver a truly immersive experience which will elevate home entertainment to a whole new level of excitement. You will no longer just be watching a movie, you’ll be experiencing the realism of Hollywood film.” Read more

Yahoo! Widgetized TV from Samsung

Yahoo! Widgets on Samsung TV Yahoo! is teaming up with Samsung to bring on demand content directly to the television from the internet. The TV adapted version of the Yahoo! Widget Engine is dubbed Internet@TV - Content Service.

TV Widgets will include Yahoo! content (Flickr, News, Weather and Finance), USA Today, YouTube, and eBay. Many other widgets are planned and announced too. Like on many other devices and platforms, a service from Netflix will be available. No word on that widget's features though. Many widgets will fit nicely in supplying information on demand. However, I wonder about those that really require more interaction like Twitter, eBay and MySpace.

EMTEC’s Gdium Netbook

EMTEC Gdium Netbook The GDium Liberty 1000 uses the unique G-Key. It is a bootable USB key that contains all the software as there is no hard drive inside the netbook. Families or businesses can have a G-Key for each person. Your changes to personalize the computer are stored on the G-Key. It looks to be attached to the computer in an odd place (under the keyboard near the front edge) but might not be a problem.

The user experience is delivered entirely using open-source software. It is a complete installation of Mandriva Linux with Mozilla Firefox and OpenOffice.org along with programs for most any required task. I personally like Debian based distributions like Ubuntu but Mandriva is worthy and an understandable choice for a French company. The Mandriva OS is said to be a 64-bit optimized version. The particular 64-bit processor used is from ST Microelectronics. The unit sports a 1024x600 pixel 10-inch screen and "full" keyboard. With no hard drive they are able to rate the computer with a 4-hour battery runtime.

The announced price is $400.
