Need for Speed is Satisfied by the 370Z

2009 Nissan 370Z With all the R&D money invested into the Nissan GT-R it is only fitting that Nissan lends those efforts to the 2009 370Z. With an all new interior, and fierce looking front-end you are bound to see this car turning heads. The 3.7-litre VQ engine is the same found in the Infiniti G37 which produces 330 hp. with 270 lb. ft. torque. The rumor is the 370Z will have 350 hp, and I am sure the aftermarket people will squeeze this for more. The media planners at Nissan (or their agency) have this car debuted in the latest video game, Need for Speed Undercover. A great marketing effort on that one...

The 2009 370Z will go on sale at Nissan dealers in early 2009.

Navigating Unfamiliar Places with MOTONAV

MOTONAV TN30 Motorola raised the bar in cell phones with the Razor. Now, MOTONAV TN20 and TN30 navigation devices are exclusively at RadioShack. There is a bright 3.5” screen and a 4.3” screen respectively. Each device is portable enough for the pocket or pocketbook to make unfamiliar territories familiar. The TN20 has an MSRP of $199 and the TN30’s MSRP is $299 and will be found at all of RadioShack’s 5,800 company and dealer stores across the country.

The turn-by-turn directions will make hands-free driving simple, and the TN30 has hands-free calling functionality with Bluetooth. I like the fact that Motorola integrated an SD card slot for map expansion, and a USB charging plug so the batteries can easily be recharged. This is a great gift for that college student who still has not wandered off their University campus for fear of getting lost. Read more

First Lithium-Ion Hybrid Coming in 2009

Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHYBRID In the summer of 2009, Mercedes-Benz will introduce the S400 BlueHYBRID, the world's first passenger hybrid vehicle to be powered by a lithium-ion battery. The new S400 BlueHYBRID is based on the S350 model and pairs a 3.5-liter V6 with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery (which is small enough to fit under the hood -- no more giving up cargo space to store the battery) and features a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The hybrid module is a disc-shaped electric motor that also acts as a starter and generator. It helps to save fuel partly because of the booster effect of the electric motor, as it backs up the gas engine with additional torque during acceleration. The hybrid module also has a start/stop function, which switches the engine off when the vehicle is at a standstill - for example at traffic lights. When it's time to drive off again, the electric motor restarts the main power unit for better fuel economy and environmental protection. Read more

Can You Hear Me Now? Headsets Make the Mobile Home Officer

By Jeff Zbar
www.homeofficehighway.com

Jawbone When it comes wireless phones and my choice of hearing devices, this home office worker tends toward the dysfunctional. I’m a fan of Bluetooth and the wireless functionality and freedom it delivers.

But I like the clarity and simple effectiveness of wired headsets. Hence my confusion (my wife would argue that it doesn’t end there, but that’s another story).

Headsets are important — and sometimes legal must-haves — accessories for wireless phones. As you’re tooling around town or exploring the Final Frontier in an RV with better things to focus on than answering your wireless phone, they free your hands for note-taking or driving (helping avoid costly traffic tickets in those markets where hands-free cellular phone use is the law - see list below).

Yet sound quality, especially when driving, was lacking. Enter new Bluetooth products designed to enhance the speaker’s voice and eliminate background sounds, like wind, lawn equipment and crowd noise. Products like Jabra, Plantronics, and the novel Jawbone (which offers a pretty creative marketing ploy: Redeem your cell phone moving violation for a discount on a new Jawbone purchase). Read more
