Golf in a Cup
Golfers who complain they can’t stay on the fairway have a new alternative to expensive lessons to improve their game. It’s a golf players’ dice game that give everyone a shot a breaking par—GO-LO.
The game is played with nine color-coded dice, representing holes with pars of three, four and five. Each die is 12-sided with a specific number sequence that determines a player’s score on every hole. The winner hits a low score, just as he would in golf, hence the object is to Go-LO. It is best played by one, two, three or four competitors.
The potential of breaking par on every roll, Shea said, causes people to "go nuts. It’s the chance for everyone to shoot low scores like the professionals do. There is nothing more exciting than being 10 under and rolling an eagle to shoot 60!"
GOLO also educates beginners how the game of golf is played. Shea, who still gives golf lessons weekly, uses the game during introductory golf lessons both to adults and juniors.
"I can teach fundamental rules in 15 minutes to novices," Shea said. "They learn right away how to score, many of the rules and how courses are laid out. I’ve never known anything else to teach so much in so short a time. The added bonus is that it is a lot of fun, and my students don’t even realize they are learning, they’re so excited."
GOLO is available at proshops, sporting goods stores, game stores and can be customized for tee prizes, promotions and party favors. $19.95. www.iGOLO.com.
