Sprint Sets Sales Record With Debut of Palm Pre

 Palm Pre

June 9, 2009 – Within hours of offering Palm Pre – the most widely anticipated electronic device of the year – eager customers delivered the result: a record Sprint sales debut.

By late Sunday, Palm Pre had broken previous sales records (first day and first weekend) for a Sprint device.

"Sprint is a very different company than it was 12 months ago," said Dan Hesse, president and chief executive officer. "Palm Pre is the coming out party for the new Sprint. It is the perfect device that highlights all of the positive changes in our company, including our revolutionary Ready Now retail store experience, greatly improved customer care, unmatched value pricing plans and America's most dependable 3G network."(1)

Pre comes with Sprint's industry-leading, value-oriented service plans – which offer significant savings vs. the competition. For example, Sprint's Simply EverythingSM plan saves customers $1200 over the comparable plan for AT&T's iPhone, and more against Verizon's smartphone and PDA pricing over a two year period – that's real value.(2)

The anticipation of getting a device found many customers waiting in line at Sprint retail stores Saturday morning. One person in line – on his wedding day – was Theodore Travis. Read more

Pharos Traveler 137

Pharos just announced the availability of the Traveler 137, a Windows phone that works on both the T-Mobile and AT&T wireless networks.

What makes this phone even more unique is its hybrid GPS navigation software that gives you voice-prompted navigation even without a connection to a carrier's network. The Traveler 137 is sold unlocked, so you can use local GSM SIM cards worldwide and avoid international roaming charges.

The Traveler 137 is now available from Amazon.com, Dell.com, eXpansys.com, and Newegg.com for $599.95. Following the Leader Who Follows the Leaders

Guess when you have $56 billion and change in the vault in today's economic environment you must be doing something right. Just wish our kids would quit contributing to the stash Apple is using to buy GPU (graphics processor unit) technology and game designer talent.

A few years ago Apple decided all smartphones sucked (they're not too hot on netbooks either). So they announced the step up from the iPod…the iPhone.

Make a Call Too – When Apple introduced the iPhone it was more than a smartphone. Actually it was everything else first and then a phone. Good move because the company set its solution way apart from everyone else and the rest of the market scrambled to catch up…still are. Source – Apple Read more

Best Buy Gives Instant Rebate on New Palm Pre

 Palm Pre

Are you wanting to get your hands on the new Palm Pre, but don't want to go through the hassle of mailing in the form for your $100 rebate? Then head on over to your local Best Buy. They announced earlier this week that they will offer an instant $100 rebate on the Palm Pre (in stores on June 6th).

The Palm Pre, available only on Sprint, runs on the Palm webOS Operating System and features a 3.1-inch touch screen, QWERTY keyboard, built-in GPS, 3.0 megapixel camera, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, 7GB of internal storage and more…

It will be available at Best Buy on June 6th for $199.99 (after $100 instant rebate and new 2-year agreement). I have heard that Radio Shack will also be offering the instant rebate. The Pre will be available at other retailers on the same date, but you'll have to mail the rebate form in and wait (and wait…and wait….) to get your money back.

Glympse Lets Everyone Know Your Mobile Location (if you want them to)

 Glympse on G1 phone

Glympse just announced yesterday that their new Glympse service is available in public Beta. What is Glympse? It is a service for your smartphone that lets you share your real-time location with others in your address book via a link to a map marking your exact location.

Running late to a meeting? Stuck in Traffic? No need to make phone calls or send texts to let everyone know, just send them the link (or as the company says, "glympse" them). The map will mark your exact location and he recipient can then follow you in real time (if on a computer…mobile users will need to refresh). It will then give them the estimated time of your arrival if the destination has been sent. You can choose who can see where you are (after all, you don't want your entire address book knowing, do you?) and for how long (from minutes to hours). Recipients don't need to download Glympse to view the information, however, the company says that they will "have a more dynamic experience" if they do.

Right now the service is only available on T-Mobile G1 phones, but they plan to make it available on other smartphones, including the iPhone, Blackberry and Windows Mobile devices in the near future.

For more information, visit www.glympse.com.

 Palm Pre

Sprint has finally announced the Palm Pre for a June 6th release. It will cost you $200 after signing a two-year contract and cashing in a $100 rebate. The Palm Pre will run on Sprint's 3G network and will feature Palm Synergy.

 Nokia E71x

May 4, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Nokia announced that the slimmest smartphone on the market, the Nokia E71x, will be available in AT&T retail stores and online beginning today. Priced at just USD 99.99*, this much-anticipated full QWERTY smartphone arrives at a time when one in two people surveyed** say they would prefer to communicate via text message or email over phone calls.

"The trend for messaging, whether email, IM, texting or social networking, is stronger than ever - we are seeing a real shift in the way people prefer to communicate," says David Petts, Vice President and General Manager, AT&T Account, Nokia. "The E71x is one of the most stylish and sophisticated QWERTY smartphones on the market, and it's the ideal companion for people who enjoy easy messaging and connecting with their friends. We are thrilled to now bring this sleek smartphone to people across the United States with AT&T."

In a recent survey conducted with 500 American adults aged 18 and above, 52 percent said they would prefer to use texting or emailing if they had to use only one communication method for two weeks. The option of only making voice calls for two weeks trailed behind at 40 percent, according to the people surveyed. The survey, commissioned by Nokia, looked at the way people use messaging and social networking on their mobile devices.Read more
