Apple Brings New Features and More Affordable Pricing to iPod touch and iPod nano

October 4, 2011--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apple today announced great new features and more affordable pricing for both iPod touch and iPod nano. iPod touch will be available in new black and white models starting at just $199, including Apple’s new iOS 5 and iCloud services. The new iPod nano is available today starting at just $129 and features a redesigned user interface, 16 new digital clock faces and improved built-in fitness features.

"iPod has revolutionized the way we listen to music and with over 320 million sold is the world’s most popular music player," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "iPod touch, now available in both black and white, is the best selling iPod ever, and with iOS 5 and iCloud it is better than ever."

The new iPod touch includes iOS 5, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, which includes over 200 new features including iMessage, Game Center, Notifications and Wi-Fi Syncing to iTunes. iMessage brings the functionality of iPhone messaging to your iPod touch, so you can easily send text messages, photos, videos and contact information to an individual or group on other iOS 5 devices. It also allows you to easily maintain one conversation across all your iOS devices—for free—with notifications, read receipts and typing indication.* Game Center enhancements include the ability to add photos to your profile, purchase new games from within the Game Center app, and even easier ways to find friends and new games.

iPod touch also works with iCloud, Apple’s breakthrough set of free cloud services, including iTunes in the Cloud, Photo Stream and Documents in the Cloud, that work seamlessly with your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC to automatically and wirelessly store your content and push it to your devices. When content changes on one device, all your other devices are updated automatically and wirelessly.Read more

 Sony B-series Walkman

If you're around my age, 42, then you probably remember that Sony was the name of the game when it came to portable media. Unfortunately for them, about 10 years ago, Apple took over, and the rest is iPod history. However, that hasn't stopped Sony from slowly clawing back a lot of lost ground over the last few years.

Back To School Tech Guide for College Students

 chalkboard

Right about now you're starting to wonder what kinds of electronics your college student is going to need. "Need" being the operative word here, as opposed to the many gadgets they merely want but claim to need. Retrevo has provided us with their "Back to School Tech Guide" to help you sift through the options so your students can be as productive as possible, and you can still afford gas to go visit them.

As far as Retrevo's editors are concerned, the perfect dorm room set up is a decent laptop with plenty of storage, a second larger display monitor that also functions as a television, and both a wireless mouse and keyboard. A good pair of headphones or speakers is also pretty necessary.

Must Have

1. Laptop/Netbook
The specs of what kind of laptop students need varies depending on what they will be doing - literature students who will be writing essays could get by with a netbook, while graphic artists will need something more robust but according to Retrevo's Product Life-cycle there are a few must-haves for everyone. World's Smallest Boombox Delivers

 X-mini Happy

"Sound beyond size" truly describes the "World's Smallest Boombox." Even for the serious audiophiles of the world, the X-mini Happy delivers on its name. The X-mini Happy offers a sound quality/volume to size ratio that few devices are capable of with only a 40mm, 2.5W driver. The 'Buddy-Jack' — a 3.5mm audio jack which allows multiple X-minis to connect to each other — further enhances the listening experience. However, using longer connecting cables would likely maximize the usage of the 'Buddy-Jack' system.

The overall versatility of the X-mini Happy offers compatibility with the variety of technologies and lifestyles that the modern music listener owns and uses. Cell phones, gaming devices, laptops, desktops, MP4, MP3 players and most modern operating systems can all be used with the X-mini Happy. The built-in MP3 player, and its more than adequate 2GB SD card (expandable to 32GB), is an added bonus that makes the X-mini Happy a completely independent sound system in and of itself.Read more

Apple Intros New iPod touch

 Apple iPod touch

Features Retina Display, A4 chip, FaceTime Video Calling, HD Video Recording & Game Center

September 1, 2010—Apple today announced the new iPod touch, packed with incredible new features including Apple’s stunning Retina display, FaceTime video calling, HD video recording, Apple’s A4 chip, 3-axis gyro, iOS 4.1 and Game Center—all combined in the thinnest and lightest iPod touch ever. The new iPod touch features up to 40 hours of music playback and seven hours of video playback on a single battery charge.*

"We’ve put our most advanced technology inside the new iPod touch," said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. "Whether you’re listening to music, playing games, making FaceTime video calls, browsing the web, capturing HD video or watching TV shows and movies, the new iPod touch with its Retina display, A4 chip and 3-axis gyro is more fun than ever."

Apple’s stunning Retina display makes everything on iPod touch look even more incredible, whether playing games, watching video, browsing the web or flicking through photos. The Retina display has 960 x 640 pixels—four times as many pixels than before. The resulting 326 pixels per inch is so dense that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels when iPod touch is held at a normal distance, making text, images and video look sharper, smoother and more realistic.Read more
