Sprint's Ultra-Rugged, Fully Submersible Sanyo Taho Hits Stores for $99.99

Sprint today announced the Sanyo Taho by Kyocera, a new rugged handset that can be fully immersed in water 3.28 feet deep for up to 30 minutes. In addition to water immersion, this "military tough" phone can handle just about anything Mother Nature throws at it – dust, shock, vibration, extreme temperatures and blowing rain. The Sanyo Taho is Sprint's first fully submersible device priced less than $100.

The handset is covered in a non-slip Dura-Grip texture and has a 2-inch QVGA TFT internal display and 1-inch monochrome external display. It includes 256 MB of internal memory, a 1 GB microSD memory card (supports up to 32GB), a front-ported speaker phone and 2-megapixel camera with flash and camcorder. Read more

Sprint Launches Certified Pre-Owned Device Program

Sprint this week announced a new Certified Pre-owned Device Program, giving Sprint customers a chance to purchase pre-owned devices at a lower cost. But not only do those who purchase a pre-owned device get a great deal, they are helping the environment by giving these pre-owned devices a "second life."

Three certified pre-owned devices are now available at Sprint.com – BlackBerry Tour, Samsung Reclaim in green, and Sanyo 2700 in pink and blue. Existing customers can purchase one of these pre-owned devices at regular price without a contract extension and without affecting their current upgrade eligibility status.

Existing pricing for the devices are as follows:

  • BlackBerry Tour at $79.99, and
  • Samsung Reclaim in green and Sanyo 2700 in pink and blue are each available for $49.99.
  • Customers with a new two year contract can get the Hero & Tour at $29.99 and the green Reclaim or pink & blue 2700 for FREE.

SANYO Unveils its eneloop bike at CES 2010

January 7, 2010 – SANYO today unveiled its eneloop bike (a hybrid pedal assist electric bicycle) to the United States mass market at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, with this "Synergetic Hybrid Bicycle" as its initial model for the U.S.

SANYO's eneloop bike was selected as a "Best of Innovations" award winner by the Consumer Electronics Association for CES 2010 and received the highest overall score in the Eco-Design and Sustainable Technology category.

Introduced by SANYO in Japan in December 2008, the eneloop bike is a 26-inch, three-speed regenerative, pedal-assist hybrid electric bicycle. As such, riders can propel the eneloop bike under their own power or can engage the bike’s motor and electrical system to pedal in one of three assist modes – standard, power-up or auto – where the front hub-based motor helps the bicycle and rider travel forward. SANYO has two new audio systems for your iPod, the DMP-P1 Cube Alarm Clock Radio with an iPod docking station, and the DMP-692 Dual Dock Music System.

The DMP-P1 Cube Alarm Clock features AM/FM PLL digital tuning with programmable alarm and iPod dock for recharging and playing. Wake up from either a song on your iPod's playlist, radio station or a buzzer mode. The radio also has sleep and snooze modes.

The DMP-692 Dual Dock Music System features AM/FM digital stereo tuners with dual programmable alarms. Just like the Cube Alarm Clock, you can wake up from either a playlist on your iPod or iPhone, radio station or a buzzer mode. It also has sleep and snooze modes. With this model, you can charge two iPods or an iPod and iPhone simultaneously. It also includes an integrated, rear-mounted, passive subwoofer for additional bass response and is a fully functional sound system in addition to a standard alarm clock. A remote controls the iPod/iPhone or AM/FM radio.

Sanyo Announces Wi-Fi Enabled Projector for the U.S.

This is the world's first projector to feature built-in 802.11n WiFi. Sanyo just announced that the PLC-WXU700 will be coming to the U.S. next month at an expected retail price of $2,995. It will weigh in at 7.9lbs and the dimensions are 13.15" (W) x 3.1" (H) x 10.14" (D).

The PLC-WXU700 supports video playback for MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4 and WMV files and will have a widescreen native aspect ratio of 1280 x 800. Additionally, this projector will produce a solar like 3,800 lumens and will use a highly efficient, high-output, 275-watt lamp.

Sanyo further helps the environment by conforming to the European RoHS Directive and using packaging that contains pulp molds, which can be recycled as used paper.
