Samsung Announces World's First 3D LED TVs

 Samsung C7000 3D LED TV

Samsung made some huge announcements today at the 3D Wonder Event in New York City, including the world's first-available 3D LED TV. A full lineup of other 3D home entertainment products were announced (new Blu-ray players, Blu-ray home theater systems), but today we're going to focus on the new 3D TVs.

Samsung's 3D TV lineup includes the LED 7000/8000/9000 Series, LCD 750 Series, and the Plasma 7000/8000 Series. Available this month are the 3D capable 46" and 55" LED C7000, with the remaining 3D TVs rolling out over the next several months.

Samsung's 3D LED TVs (models C7000, C8000 and C9000), feature Samsung's Real240Hz refresh rate technology and Samsung's proprietary built-in 3D processor. The LED TVs also come with Internet@TV connectivity and access to Samsung Apps, so you can stream movies, play games, view photos, and more while you watch TV. The 3D LED TVs are eco-conscious too, exceeding EnergyStar 4.0 guidelines. Read more

Samsung HDTVs to Include Skype

 Samsung HDTV with Skype

Samsung's new 2010 LED 7000 and 8000 series HDTVs will include Skype software, allowing Skype users to make voice and video calls through the TVs.

The LED 7000 and 8000 series TVs include Samsung's free Internet@TV. To make Skype video calls, simply connect the TV to the Internet and attach a FREETALK TV Camera (available soon in the Skype Shop) and you're set! Use the TV remote control to sign into (or create) your Skype account, through the Skype interface on the television screen. Voice calls will use Skype's SILK audio codec, for excellent audio quality.

Skype video calls and voice calls between Skype users will be free. Using Skype to call traditional landline and mobile phones will cost pennies per minute.

The Samsung LED 7000 and 8000 series broadband HDTVs are currently shipping to the Korean market and will be available worldwide the first half of 2010.

Samsung First to Mass Produce 3D HDTVs

 Samsung 3D TV

Samsung Electronics just announced that they are the first company to start mass producing both 3D LED TVs and 3D LCD TVs. The company began producing LED and LCD panels for 40-inch, 46-inch and 55-inch full-HD 3D TVs using '3D Active Glasses' this month, employing Samsung's true 240Hz technology. True 240Hz technology allows you to view full-HD in 2D, as well as full-HD 3D images.

The panels use Samsung's new 3D Active Glasses technology which allows 3D images to appear more lifelike by first blocking the left and then right lens, causing a slight lag when images are shown to each eye. Samsung has also reduced the response time of its LCD and LED panels by 20 percent to less than four milliseconds, eliminating interference between the eyes.

A remote with a TV screen?

 Samsung All-in-One Premium Remote

Last week at CES, Samsung unveiled a TV remote control that has its own television screen. Yes, you read that right, this remote actually has it's own TV screen on it! Scheduled to come out later this year with Samsung's new 9000 Series HDTVs (but sold separately), the touchscreen "All-in-One Premium Remote" looks somewhat like an iPhone and allows you to watch a different TV channel than the TV that it controls.

Why would you want to do this? Say you're watching football while your spouse wants to watch their favorite TV show. With this remote, one of you can watch on the remote control, the other on the TV. (Hmm...do you see arguments over who gets the "big TV"? You're on your own there...) Headphones can be used for the person watching TV on the remote. The All-in-One Premium Remote can even be taken into the other room and still work (how far away, we don't know yet).

Pricing has not been announced, but the All-in-One Premium Remote is due to come out later this year. Stay tuned!
