Getac's Ultra-Rugged V100 Gets Some Great New Upgrades

The Getac V100 has always been known for its near indestructibility. However, it has never really been that powerful. Yes, it is a tablet pc, but still, it should have some flair. Well, it looks like it does now!

The upgrades for the Getac V100 include:

  • A Super Bright 1200 NITS LED Display
  • 802.11n
  • ExpressCard slot functionality
  • 1.2 GHz Intel Merom -> 1.4 GHz Intel Penryn
  • Increased in front side bus of 533 MHz -> 800 MHz
  • 2MB L2 cache increased -> 3MB.
  • RAM increased from 2GB -> 4GB.
  • 120GHB HDD (minimum) and 205GB HDD (maximum) increased -> 160GB and 320GB respectively

If you work in an explosive environment, the V100 now features a new UL 1604 certification, which is optional; to help ensure safe, spark-free use of the device in potentially explosive environments. Dell just announced a new rugged laptop – the Latitude E6400 XFR. Designed for those in harsh environments such as the military, Homeland Security and the like, this laptop is tough! It features the Dell’s Ballistic Armor Protection System which can withstand twice the impact strength of magnesium alloy, extreme temperatures, and has a 25 percent higher drop specification than any computer in its class.

GETAC just announced they will supply their rugged, mobile computing systems and services to HP as a Premium Partner. Under this arrangement, enterprise and industry-specific organizations can buy GETAC-branded rugged notebooks, convertible/slate tablets, handhelds and in-vehicle solutions through HP's direct sales teams and channel partners.

They have been used for nearly 20 years in the military, public safety, utilities, transportation, telecommunication, construction, mining and refining applications (to name just a few).
