2010 Porsche 911 GT3 will be the First Car to Use Magnetic Engine Mounts

 2010 Porsche 911 GT3

Magneto rheological (MR) fluid can make physics class fun! It has the ability to quickly alter its physical property from a low-viscosity liquid to a very stiff, nearly solid substance in milliseconds with introduction of a magnetic field. Well now, thanks to Delphi, this technology, that used to only be used in shock absorbers, is going to be used in engine mounts. And the first car to get these new mounts is the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3.

With these new engine mounts, controlling the noise and vibration of the powertrain will be much easier and can improve stability and traction, especially during "transient torque events." As someone who recently busted an engine mount, transmission mount and torque mount, I can safely say that this is very true and it also greatly improves the car's comfort level. Plus, as in my case, if one mount goes, more can easily go, too.Read more

911 Turbo Pushed to 858hp Thanks to Sportec

 Porsche 911 Turbo

Swiss-based tuner, Sportec, has recently announced its latest "extreme" performance kit. Dubbed the SPR1 T80 kit, the Porsche 911 Turbo receives an intense output of 858hp (631kW) and 650lb-ft (880Nm) of torque out of the custom T80M engine. After the mods, you are looking at a total weight of 2,959lb (1,345kg).

Other Modifications include:

  • Reinforced titanium engine internals
  • New turbochargers
  • A baffled exhaust system

9ff Tunes the Porsche 911 GT2, Nearly Hits 240mph!

 Porsche 911 BT-2

Famous Porsche tuner, 9ff, has literally created a GT2 supercar. Dubbed the BT-2, 9ff has added a new exhaust system, slight tweaking of the ECU and some aerodynamic mods to make this car practically a death trap. The GT2 has power like a 911 Turbo, but does not have the all-wheel-drive system like one; strictly rear-wheel-drive only.

After the modifications, the BT-2 hammers out 850hp (634kW) and 678lb-ft (920Nm) of torque. It can rotate the Earth so fast that it can do 0-62mph in just 3 seconds flat, while nearly hitting 200mph in 19 seconds.

If you have a straight enough road and like to tease death, the BT-2 will almost hit a top speed of 240mph, a speed not far off from what the Bugatti Veyron supercar's 252mph.

Switzer Performance Tackles the Porsche 911 GT2

Porsche 911 GT2

Ohio based tuner, Switzer Performance, is offering an 800hp (597kW) twin-turbo kit for the insane 997 Porsche 911 GT2. Tym Switzer and the guys at SPI have given this Porsche high horsepower with an efficient and linear power curve that creates a very smooth ride for the driver. You want feel the boost kick in and snap your neck. Also, this car can still run on normal fuel, 93 octane.

To help keep this ride manageable, the SPI crew has added in-house developed headers, a sport exhaust system, a new intercooler package and custom GT30R turbochargers. Note that this is a 100% bolt-on setup, due to the fact that the ECU has been left completely untouched.

Next Generation Porsche 911 GT3 to Make World Debut in Geneva

2010 Porsche 911 GT3 January 29, 2009 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche will launch the fastest, most powerful 911 GT3 to-date at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3, 2009. The high performance GT3 is the latest in the new generation 911 series and carries over a wide range of expertise.

New Engine
The 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 raises the performance bar thanks to an increase in engine size to 3.8 liters and VarioCam technology now on both the intake and exhaust. The naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine develops 435 bhp, 20 bhp more than its predecessor.

The new, larger engine offers a significant increase in torque at medium engine speeds, which is particularly important for everyday driving. Track performance is also improved; the new GT3 accelerates to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and reaches a top track speed of 194 mph. Read more
