AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D lens.February 24, 2002 - Nikon (www.nikonusa.com), the world leader in photography, today introduced the new AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D lens. The 50mm focal length has long been acknowledged as the standard lens of 35mm photography, and this lens, with its compact size and exceptional optical performance, will appeal to a wide audience of enthusiast photographers. In addition, the new lens includes Nikon’s Distance Information, a technology that enables the lens to pass focused distance data to the compatible Nikon camera’s advanced Matrix Meter and Balanced Fill-Flash Systems. This data enhances exposure control calculations well beyond that of simple systems. The added performance has gained wide notice, as it is able to ensure more precise exposure, even under very difficult lighting conditions.

Versions of the advanced Nikon technologies, such Nikon’s 3D Color Matrix Meter, other Matrix Meter versions, 3D Digital Image Matrix Control, and fill-flash and balanced fill flash performance are provided in current Nikon 35mm and Digital SLR models.

The AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D also incorporates Nikon’s high-performance Super Integrated Coating to deliver superior color reproduction and minimize ghost and flare. It is fully compatible with all current Nikon 35mm and digital SLR camera bodies. These include the D1X, D1H and D100 digital SLR cameras and the F5, F100, N80, N65, and N55 35mm SLR cameras. With its F Mount, the AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D can also be used with every Nikon SLR made since 1959.

The AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D will be available at Nikon authorized Consumer Products Dealers (NCP) in April 2002.
