Casio Introduces Splash Resistant 1.23 Megapixel Digital Camera

Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- A 1.23 megapixel digital camera with a 2X digital zoom -- designed and engineered for toughness, one that is water, dust and shock-resistant -- was introduced by Casio, Inc. of Dover, N.J., at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) Show that opened at the Orange County Convention Center yesterday. The new G.BROS. GV-10 will be available for shipment in March of 2002 and will retail at the suggested retail price of $349.99.

"The totally new design revolutionizes the concept of a camera as a delicate device that requires special handling," said Gary Schultz, director of marketing for Casio's Mobile Information Products Division. "In addition to being able to withstand rain, snow and dirt, the new GV-10 is tough and rugged enough to withstand rough treatment encountered on the slopes, at the pool or in other similar environments," he said.

The GV-10 is a 1.23 Megapixel (1,600 x 960) digital camera with a pixel generator that increases the image size to almost 2 megapixel, resulting in better detail and smoother lines when images are enlarged to A4 size during printing to a photo printer.

Other highlights of the camera include: 8MB CompactFlash, fast F 2.8 aperture, shutter speed 1 second to 1/1,500 second, up to 10 second AVI movies, record up to 51 continuous 640 x 480 images (similar to motor drive), 3 mode flash, USB, 1.6" TFT color display, 1 button 2X digital zoom, video conferencing ready and Photohands Retouching Software.

• Outstanding water resistance and dust resistance The GV-10 is designed and engineered to comply with IEC 60529 IP66/IP67 water resistance and dust resistance (summarized below), which means you can take it along to the slopes, the beach, or the pool, and even use it in the rain.



• Water Resistance: Water shall not enter the enclosure when it is immersed in a container of standard temperature still tap water to a depth of 1 meter for approximately 30 minutes (immersion resistant). Direct jetting water from any direction shall not enter the enclosure.



• Dust Resistance: Particles with a diameter of 75u or less shall not enter the enclosure.



• Shock Resistance: The case is made of long-strand fiberglass, which is enclosed with a high-elasticity elastomer for a very high level of shock resistance. Internal circuitry floats on a "floating mount" that uses shock absorbing gel sheets to protect circuits and components from external shock.



• 1.23 million effective pixels (1.31 million total pixels)



• Built-in Pixel Generator: A built-in automatic process makes it possible to produce 1600 x 1200 pixel images, which is the size that can be recorded on a 2 megapixel digital camera. The result is better detail and smoother lines when images are enlarged to A4 size during printing to a photo printer.



• 2 X digital zoom



• BEST SHOT: The GV-10's BEST SHOT mode comes with 18 sample scenes. Simply select the Best Shot scene that is like the one you want to record and light metering, exposure, saturation and other settings are configured in an instant.



• High-speed continuous shutter: Images are stored in a buffer as they are recorded which makes it possible to record continuous images at high speed -- just the thing for capturing the action of fast-moving sports and other events as they occur. You can record up to seven 1280 x 960 (FINE) images or fifty-one 640 x 480 (NORMAL) images at a time (disabled in 1600 x 1200 Super mode).



• PC Camera Mode (Windows Only): Connecting to the USB port of the computer and using commercially available video conferencing software makes it possible to use the GV-10 as a PC camera. It's the easy way to enjoy the convenience of broadband net meetings.

• Print Functions: Selecting an image automatically starts up Photo Hands printing software. Also included are retouching tools for adjusting color, contrast, brightness and more.



• PRINT Image Matching compatible: Printing on a printer that supports EPSON PRINT Image Matching produces output whose colors are adjusted to match the characteristics of the camera. Recording with a Best Shot Mode portrait scene produces images with perfect skin tones.
