Pick Your Own Prints

photosFamilies have been snapping pictures like crazy to keep the summer vacation memories alive, but how many pictures will you actually want to keep from each roll you process?

Most people only get a handful of images they want to frame or put in photo albums. The rest end up in drawers, boxes, or the trash. To get around that problem, a lot of people have entered the digital revolution. With digital cameras, there is no film to waste. Images are stored on a memory card, which allows consumers to pick and choose the images they want to print and get rid of the rest. Now film photographers can enjoy that same luxury.

PhotoWorks has just launched a new service on its Web site called Pick Your Prints which gives customers the option of customizing their orders using print credits. PhotoWorks processes the film, then posts the images to an online account. Customers can then login to their Web site and choose the images they want to print. The bad ones, the ‘duds,’ never have to be printed. In addition, Pick Your Prints customers can also order multiples and enlargements from that same roll of film, similar to a portrait gallery, but without the hefty price tag.

Here’s how it works. You get 24 print credits for each 24-exposure roll of film you send in and 36 print credits for each 36-exposure roll. If you choose to get 3” x 5” or 4” x 6” prints made, they cost you one print credit apiece. Each 5” x 7” print costs two print credits, and 8” x 10”s are four print credits.

If you have one image on the roll you really like, you can get a handful of 5” x 7” or 8” x 10” prints to give out to family and friends without spending anything extra. Unused print credits will remain in your account for up to a year.

The Pick Your Prints program works with 24- and 36-exposure C-41 film processing. The cost is $8.95 for each 24-exposure roll and $12.95 for each 36-exposure roll.
