Great Deals on Memory Cards Discovered

There are a lot of memory card brands on the market, but in reality, the majority of memory cards you will find are actually made by only a few major players in OEM arrangements with other manufacturers who want to put their name (and reputation) on the product. One of the largest manufacturers of flash memory is a company named Advanced Media, Inc. This company is a subsidiary of RITEK Corporation, which just happens to be the world's largest optical media manufacturer.

RITEK exhibited at CES, and I was impressed with their client list, a virtual "who's who" in the photographic and electronics industry source RITEK cards. The company has now decided to make available products carrying its own brand name: RiDATA.

What I saw at CES was the super-fast RiDATA 150x Secure Digital card. It is the one of the fastest SD cards available anywhere. I spoke with Charlie Shiang, an executive with Advanced Media at their booth. Aside from going public with their brand, Charlie emphasized the degree to which Advanced Media is dedicated to providing its customers the latest advancements in high-security capacity and performance memory for all the emerging image, video, and audio consumer electronics devices. This was one fine, fast card.

RiDATA's new Advanced Media SD card features cryptographic security for protecting copyrighted data; user-selectable write-protect switch on the card casing; zero-power data retention; and automatic power-saving technology. It has been tested for 100,000 minimum erase cycles and 10,000 minimum insertions. I saw it there in the usual capacities: 256MB, 512MB, 1G, and 2G.

SD memory cards are beginning to replace Compact Flash cards as the de facto standard memory card for digital cameras, portable music devices, and countless other devices. The SD memory card is supported by more than 665 companies around the world.
