Exclusive: Kodak's 16-Million Pixel Revolution

Kodak DCS Pro Back Cologne, Germany -September 19 -- Kodak today introduced a 16 million pixel digital camera back for professional studio and catalog photographers. BestStuff previewed the 16 megapixel wonder at the recent Seybold trade show and although the chip initially will be used as a professional digital camera back for studio photographers using high end Hasselblad and Mamiya shells, look for this breakthrough technology to trickle down to consumers soon.

Most professional digital cameras are made for motion photography, now Kodak adds Portrait, weddings, catalogs and more to its digital arsenal introducing this amazing chip so big that it creates a 48 MB -size file . For many in the industry 6-million pixels is the Holy Grail-- making 16 -million seem like Nirvana. The camera back will be available next year and sell for a ridiculous amount of money, but when you start adding the lack of film cost on a Hasselblad 555 ELD camera and the tethered-free convenience of digital, studio pros will be chopping at the bit for this baby. www.kodak.com
