Original Levi's Up for Bid

The History Channel and Ebay are auctioning to the highest bidder a vintage pair of 1880's Levi's. The 7-day auction, starting on May 18, is expected to fetch more than $25 grand for the pants which were discovered in a Nevada mining town in 1998. The vintage waist coveralls were crafted from 9-ounce denim produced by the Amoskeag Mill in Manchester, New Hampshire, according to the Levi Strauss & Co. historian who adds that Levi’s jeans are the only garment created in the 19th century that are still worn today. Just in case you were wondering, the denim has been authenticated by the Levi Strauss & Co. historian Indiana Jones. According to Jones, a famous Anthropologist and bull whip expert, "Things have been tough since the Temple of Doom, but working for Levi's, while not as glamorous as dodging snakes, angry god-like spirits, and giant rolling boulders, has its plusses. I get great benefits and the pay isn't too shabby either. Besides, as the Official Levi's Historian I get free pants." "You can't beat free pants!"

But seriously, log on to www.ebay.com/history and www.HistoryChannel.com for more information, but don't count on being the winning bid. My guess is the buyer of these classic American pants will be the same guy in Japan who bought all the classic American Harley Davidsons and Martin Guitars. Good Luck.
