Iberostar Cozumel Re-Opens with New Lobby, Refurbished Guest Rooms
March 1, 2006 – The Iberostar Cozumel hotel, closed since August following the ill effects of Hurricanes Emily and Wilma, re-opened in February to the delight of both vacationing tourists and tourism industry workers and officials. Guests streamed into the fabulous new lobby of the 306 room hotel on the west coast of the island of Cozumel and were delighted to see all the improvements and renovations that have made Iberostar Cozumel better than ever.
The spacious hotel complex has a completely new look and Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has spared no expense to restore the property as quickly as possible. The guestrooms, housed in one and two-story bungalow-style buildings surrounded by tropical gardens, have been totally refurbished. The thatched roofs over all the guestrooms now have been reinforced with a double level of protection against the elements. Each room is well-equipped with private shower, air conditioning, ceiling fan, hairdryer, telephone, satellite TV, safety deposit box and mini-bar. All rooms have a terrace or patio with hammocks for relaxing on lazy afternoons. Landscaping is an on-going effort and the tropical foliage is returning throughout the carefully manicured grounds of Iberostar Cozumel.
The buffet restaurant located central to the property has been expanded and now features one of the most extensive buffet-style menus on the island of Cozumel. The massive Palapa roof over the buffet restaurant has also been reinforced and air-conditioning has been added to sections of the dining room. In addition to the two existing specialty restaurants, the hotel complex will open a third restaurant at the end of March. The Star Rock Café will offer casual dining until 9:30 p.m., after which it will become a sports bar and disco. The resort's spacious grounds also include a beautifully-designed pool area with a terrace, children's pool and swim-up pool bar plus a completely renovated and expanded pool-side restaurant.
Lounge chairs, umbrellas and towel service are provided and, at the beach, a new beach bar offers a variety of beverages for guests to enjoy. One surprise benefit of the storms from last year is an expanded white sand beach at Iberostar Cozumel offering guests a wider area of powdery beachfront to stretch out and soak up the sun.
Cozumel is known worldwide for its pristine waters and beautiful dive sites, which can be explored once again. Iberostar Cozumel provides scuba diving through Dressel Divers, a CDC/PADI Gold Palm Resort Dive Center located right on the beachfront property. Here guests can enroll in diving courses that range from basic to instructor levels. The center also offers nitrox courses, local dives and night dives for certified divers, cenote diving, equipment rental, snorkel tours and courses.
