Apple unveils iPhone 4S, updated nano & touch, iOS 5 and Siri, but no iPhone 5...yet

The iPhone 4S has upgraded components including a better camera, faster processor and available Oct. 15

 Apple iPhone 4S

Today, Apple announced the upgrade to the iPhone 4 at a much heralded event at its Cupertino campus. However, they did not announce the arrival of the new iPhone 5. Apple's stock tanked after the announcement completed.

CEO Tim Cook, replacing Steve Jobs and leading his first product event, gave us a glimpse of the iPhone 4S, which looks exactly like an iPhone 4, but has upgraded components including a better camera. It will be available Oct. 15 with pre-orders beginning Oct. 7.

 Siri

The event also featured the unveiling of Siri, a new voice-recognition technology on the 4S that transcribes voice to text in any text field where there is a keyboard; Apple's new mobile operating system, iOS 5, available Oct. 12; the launch of iCloud, which will also be available Oct. 12; and new pricing for the updated 'white' iPod touch and the updated multi-touch iPod nano.

However, Cook and other Apple executives who took the stage did not announce an iPhone 5, which sent the company's stock price tumbling -- Apple's share price fell to a loss of more than 3 percent on the day immediately after the event ended without the standard announcement of "one more thing," which would have been a completely redesigned iPhone.Read more

Apple Brings New Features and More Affordable Pricing to iPod touch and iPod nano

October 4, 2011--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apple today announced great new features and more affordable pricing for both iPod touch and iPod nano. iPod touch will be available in new black and white models starting at just $199, including Apple’s new iOS 5 and iCloud services. The new iPod nano is available today starting at just $129 and features a redesigned user interface, 16 new digital clock faces and improved built-in fitness features.

"iPod has revolutionized the way we listen to music and with over 320 million sold is the world’s most popular music player," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "iPod touch, now available in both black and white, is the best selling iPod ever, and with iOS 5 and iCloud it is better than ever."

The new iPod touch includes iOS 5, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, which includes over 200 new features including iMessage, Game Center, Notifications and Wi-Fi Syncing to iTunes. iMessage brings the functionality of iPhone messaging to your iPod touch, so you can easily send text messages, photos, videos and contact information to an individual or group on other iOS 5 devices. Apple Reinvents iPod nano With Multi-Touch Interface

 Apple iPod nano

New Built-in Clip for Instant Wearability

September 1, 2010—Apple today unveiled a completely redesigned iPod nano featuring Apple’s Multi-Touch interface that lets users navigate their music collection by simply tapping or swiping a finger on the display. Nearly half the size and weight of the previous generation, the new iPod nano features a polished aluminum and glass enclosure with a built-in clip, making it instantly wearable. The new iPod nano features Genius Mixes, the ability to create and edit playlists, a built-in FM radio with live pause and up to 24 hours of music playback on a single battery charge.*

"This is the biggest reinvention of the iPod nano since its debut in 2005, and we think users are going to love it," said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. "Replacing the click wheel with our Multi-Touch interface has enabled us to shrink the iPod nano into an amazingly small design that is instantly wearable with its built-in clip."

The new iPod nano with Apple’s Multi-Touch interface allows users to access their songs, artists, albums and playlists with a tap or swipe of their finger on the display. Holding down a finger returns the user to the Home screen, and users can easily use two fingers to rotate the screen if it is clipped onto their clothing upside down. Users can also customize their Home screen by simply dragging icons from other screens onto the Home screen. Read more
