The Game Is On

 Shoot ‘Em Up (2007)

"The leader who stays in the rear, takes it in the rear. Besides, violence is one of the most fun things to watch."Mr. Hertz, Shoot 'Em Up (2007), New Line Cinema

A friend just had his PayPal account (hence his AmEx account) tapped for $50.

His son had bought a big bunch of virtual gold on a Zynga game he was playing.

$50 for something that doesn't exist?

OMG, someone really can sell the Brooklyn Bridge!

The game industry has come a long way since our Atari days. Now it's approaching a $1B industry!

Sony, MS and Nintendo still fight it out for leadership in the number of devices, but the real profit makers are the social and mobile games.

Why would millions of people buy something as meaningless as Raging Birds? Read more

Game Developer's Conference: Day 2

 Panasonic 3DTV

The bad thing about events in Northern California is that there are always a number of them going on in the tech industry and usually they have a knack to overlap.

Take today.

Yes GDC is still on but then down in San Jose is a two-day OTTCon (over the top conference) taking place. No biggie you say but these are the guys/gals who are going give us a hint on what we'll be watching, where we'll be watching it, how we'll be watching it.

Affects the way you work with games too!

OTTCon Snapshot

These folks have a huge challenge ahead of them. They're busting each other's chops trying to figure out exactly what tomorrow's TV entertainment is going to be like especially since people seem to want to push it to every screen you have (and even will be thinking about).

That's not so bad but they're really trying to figure out how they're going to get their money out of it! And how does it fit into/compete in the YouTube online spectrum? It does!

They were an energetic crowd but the first thing you realize is that they don't have any better idea where TV is going than you do…but they say it with confidence/conviction so it "feels" so!Read more

Personalized Videos for iPad Viewing is as Easy as 1-2-3

 iPad

If you're one of the millions who has told Santa you've been very, very good all year and can't wait for Christmas morning to see if he left one for you under the tree, all we can say is...good luck.

If you're one who didn't want to take any chances, you already got yours and are leading the parade.

Moving smoothly, effortlessly through your photo files is a blast with the iPad. Watching movies, TV shows and online videos is even more fun. Some iPad owners have found that if they want to quickly create their own movie, complete with music and/or voiceovers, the finished video isn't supported on the iPad.

There's nothing wrong with your iPad, it's just that videos produced by some video editing applications won't play on today's popular electronic tablets. To enable the widest possible viewing opportunities, muvee recently added iPad HD playback support to its automated Windows-based video editing software, Reveal.Read more

 The Producers (1968)

"Money is honey! Money is honey!"Max Bailystock (Zero Mostel) – The Producers (1968), Embassy Pictures

Ever wonder why when someone wants to show you how good their device is, they never show you a PowerPoint presentation? They're boring…yes even yours! But video? It grabs your attention and keeps your attention.

It's so good that recently Cisco reported that IP traffic (that's Internet stuff) will increase five-fold by 2013, and 90 percent of the stuff will be video. Internet video already accounts for one-third of all consumer Internet traffic.

According to Pew, 62% of online users watched video through a sharing site in April. They found 19% of the folks also downloaded podcasts. Maybe that's why Nielsen Company reports that YouTube is pushing out about 1.2 billion streams every day! All that video may strain the iNet infrastructure, but there's no turning back folks thirst for great content.Read more
