New CES Tech That Could Make Your Gear Obsolete

We're just back from the consumer electronics extravaganza in Las Vegas where we saw some amazing new gadgets and gear including new TVs, tablets, smartphones and new high tech automobiles. Much of the technology we saw may not be available for some time (if at all) but we did see some trends that will sooner or later make many of your high tech possessions obsolete.

Future TVs Will Be Sharper

4K HDTVs A year ago at CES 2011 we saw just a few 4K resolution HDTVs but at this year's show we saw lots more. Full HD is defined as 1920 x 1080 but he next generation standard will double that to 3840 x 2160 which they are calling 4K (4K x 2K). Just as everyone who saw HD when it first came out could see a big difference between its higher resolution and older standard definition TVs, once you see 4K TVs you'll want one. Yes, it will take new production equipment, new distribution methods and present all kinds of challenges but isn't that what the industry thrives on?Read more

Media Interface Plus Allows Pandora Streaming in Mercedes Vehicles

 Media Interface Plus

Mercedes-Benz USA has a new accessory that lets drivers retrofit their Mercedes to play and control Pandora (as well as other streaming audio) from their smartphone, using the vehicle's audio system. The Media Interface Plus (MIP) is a plug-and-play device and requires no installation. Simply connect MIP to the existing Media Interface outlet (in the glove compartment or center armrest) of the vehicle to enjoy the new features.

The MIP provides an easy-to-use interface with the Pandora app running on an iPhone 3G, 3GS or iPhone 4. For BlackBerry devices, the MIP enables Bluetooth audio streaming of Pandora. Bluetooth is also used to stream and control audio tracks from iPod, iPhone or any other consumer electronics devices supporting Bluetooth audio streaming.

Also, when connected using a special video cable, the Media Interface Plus allows customers to play iPod or iPhone video content on the vehicle display when the vehicle is at a standstill.

The Media Interface Plus is available now for $298 at Mercedes-Benz authorized dealers.
