MartinLogan's sub-$2000 Electrostatic Loudspeaker

 3 MartinLogan ElectroMotion ESL speakers

Budget conscious audiophiles, take note! This spring, MartinLogan started shipping its ElectroMotion-ESL (EM-ESL) – the most affordable full-size electrostatic loudspeaker available today. Featuring a 34-inch tall curvilinear XStat electrostatic transducer, the EM-ESL sells for $1,995 per pair, a bargain when it comes to electrostatic speakers.

The EM-ESL is MartinLogan's second sub-$2000 speaker. The company's first, the Aerius, launched back in 1992 and sold in record numbers. The new EM-ESL boasts 40 percent more radiating surface (129 sq. inches) in its electrostatic panel and a sensitivity of 91dB into 6 Ohms, making it compatible with a larger selection of amplifiers and receivers.

The EM-ESL's panel is housed within a radical aluminum and composite AirFrame which increases the electrostatic panel's rigidity without obstructing surface area or interfering with the speaker's dipole radiation pattern. In addition, proprietary Vojtko filtering technology blends audio output from the electrostatic panel to the low-frequency woofer seamlessly.Read more

New MartinLogan Loudspeaker Uses Built In Amplifier to Reduce Wire Clutter

November 4, 2008—MartinLogan is proud to announce the new “Feature” loudspeaker, a fully powered, high-resolution, electrostatic loudspeaker designed for use either on- or off-wall in center, front, or surround channel applications.

Internally powered with a high-resolution 150 watt switching amplifier the Feature allows an unprecedented level of system connection flexibility. A standard RCA line-level input minimizes wire clutter by connecting directly to on-wall televisions (and other devices) without the need for external amplifiers.

Additionally, standard speaker-level connections allow the fully powered Feature to integrate with audio systems where RCA connection is not possible. Consumers choosing to use the Feature with a traditional receiver will experience an enhanced sonic experience without the need to upgrade to a more expensive model. Read more
