iGrill - the First Bluetooth and App-Enabled Device on the Market

 iGrill app on iPhone 4

A company called iDevices has introduced the world's first wireless cooking thermometer for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. iGrill turns your iPhone into your own personal sous-chef, enabling you to multitask between your grill or oven and your guests, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your food is perfectly cooked.

iGrill is the first Bluetooth and app-enabled new gadget on the market, and includes an iGrill thermometer with projection display, probe, and the iGrill app for your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. The app is the real magic here. It lets you know the status of your food via Bluetooth. And because the Bluetooth connection has a particularly long range (over 200 feet), it means that you can be with your guests while your food is cooking, and you don't have to be slaving over a hot stove all the time and missing out on all the fun.

Bowers & Wilkins Gets Social: Launches the Zeppelin Air App

 Zeppelin Air App iPad playlist

Bowers & Wilkins this week announced the new Zeppelin Air App, the world's first iOS AirPlay app. Built for use with the company's Zeppelin Air speaker dock (but can be used with any Apple AirPlay device), the app builds a social music community playlist by bringing iTunes libraries from multiple iOS devices together wirelessly. What does this mean? You can have your iPad, your friend can use his iPhone, someone else can bring along their iPod touch - and the iTunes content from each device joins together, allowing you to build a customized, community playlist, which is streamed to any AirPlay-enabled music player.

The playlist is managed on your iOS device, where it can be edited before sending tunes wirelessly to your music player. No Mac or PC is needed to use the app; only a Wi-Fi network. Available now, you can download the free Zeppelin Air App from iTunes.

"There are many fantastic mobile apps that allow you to stream music, but the Zeppelin Air App is the first of its kind that enables users to share music and create collaborative playlists with friends, mobile device to mobile device," said Paul McCarthy, of app developer Aurnhammer. "Bowers & Wilkins has essentially created a wireless, virtual jukebox."

iPhone Apps Improve Car Service Record Keeping

 Car Maintenance app screenshot

A growing number of iPhone apps are helping drivers keep better track of service and maintenance records for their cars, according to Edmunds.com.

"These new smartphone apps are offering a convenient alternative to the clutter of oil-stained paperwork that drivers packed into their gloveboxes for so many years," says Doug Newcomb, senior technology editor at Edmunds.com. "Not only do the apps keep users on top of their maintenance schedules, but they also keep tabs on operating costs, which helps car owners manage their automotive budgets more effectively."

Edmunds.com tested and recommended four of these inexpensive apps, which range in price from 99 cents to $2.99:

Car Minder Plus ($2.99) – This app stands out by featuring all the essentials, including logging repairs, tracking fuel economy and keeping the maintenance records of multiple vehicles.

Car Care ($2.99) – The most impressive aspect of this app is "Vehicle Stats," which gives comprehensive data including average and total fuel costs, fuel economy, service costs per mile and even the user’s carbon footprint

Car Maintenance]($1.99) – The app consists of bare-bones iPhone list menus, so there's essentially no learning curve. Enter the vehicle info: make, model, year, license, VIN and mileage and you're on your way. Read more
