Kids Can Help Make a Mother’s Day Breakfast

Mommy's Little Helper Cookbook Start Mother’s Day off right by treating Mom to breakfast. Kids can help Dad make some yummy treats with these simple recipes.


Banana-Orange Cups

  • Slice the tops of large oranges and trim the bottoms so the oranges sit level.
  • Scoop out the fruit and put in a bowl.
  • Save the orange shells.
  • Add bite-size pieces of banana to the bowl and stir the fruit together.
  • Spoon the fruit back into the orange shells.

Cinnamon Toast

  • Place pieces of bread on a cookie sheet.
  • Put in the oven until brown.
  • Remove the cookie sheet, turn the bread over and spread butter on the unbrowned sides.
  • Combine sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  • Sprinkle the mixture on the buttered sides of the bread.
  • Return to the oven for a few minutes.

Microwave Applesauce

  • Peel and slice four large apples into chunks.
  • Place in a microwave-safe bowl and add 1/4 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of honey.
  • Cover the bowl and cook in the microwave for about four minutes, or until mushy.
  • Use a potato masher to smash the apples into a puree. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Strawberry-Yogurt Shake

  • Pour 1 cup of milk into a blender.
  • Add 1 cup of fresh or frozen strawberries.
  • Blend until the mixture is smooth.
  • Add 1 cup of strawberry yogurt and blend again.
