OPPO Jumps into the Blu-ray Fray

OPPO BDP-83 Even though the transition from VHS to DVD seems recent to most people, it is time to prepare for the next transition: DVD to Blu-ray. (For people who have not kept up with it, Blu-ray became the winner in the new format war over high-definition movies by beating HD-DVD.)

OPPO is not wasting any time to make the jump, and recently announced their BDP-83 universal disk player. Predictably, the BDP-83 offers excellent sound and quality, including upconversion of regular DVDs. To speak technically, OPPO expects the new player to support BD Profile 2.0 (BD-Live), DVD, SACD, DVD-Audio, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio, but right now, only BD Profile 1.1 (BONUSVIEW), DVD-Video, SACD, and bitstreaming of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio has been mastered.

The BDP-83 should be available in early 2009 for around five hundred dollars.

ZVOX Unveils the Z-Base 550 All-in-One Home Theater

ZVOX Z-Base 550December 18, 2008— ZVOX is pleased to announce the Z-Base 550, a complete home theater system built conveniently into a base platform for stand-mounted flat-panel TV sets. Based on several design innovations from ZVOX, the Z-Base 550 sounds absolutely terrific - reproducing music and movie soundtracks with lifelike accuracy. But the entire system - speakers, amplifier, virtual surround technology and powered subwoofer - fits into a super-slim cabinet engineered to accommodate the heft of virtually any flat-panel TV.

As the prices of flat-panel TVs have come down, studies indicate that fewer consumers have chosen to wall-mount their TV. The Z-Base 550 has been designed specifically to accommodate almost all of the top-selling flat-panel TV’s between 32 and 47-inches. The Z-Base 550 utilizes beautiful hand-lacquered high-gloss black end panels, and the top of the Z-Base 550 is finished in rugged, scratch-resistant black vinyl that is less likely to be marred by objects such as the TV placed on its surface. Runco Debuts VideoWall VW-100HD In-Wall Display

December 2008 – Runco, the leading brand in luxury video solutions, proudly announces its new VideoWall VW-100HD in-wall projection video display is now shipping, offering installation professionals new levels of versatility and convenience while achieving full HD (1920 x 1080) imagery perfection on a sprawling 100-inch screen.

Runco's native 16:9 VideoWall system is perfect for installations where an ultra-large screen is required, but front projection is difficult-to-impossible to deliver, particularly in instances where a high level of ambient light makes high-quality video from a front projector appear washed-out. "Runco's in-wall systems are fantastic alternatives to extremely heavy and prohibitively expensive plasma displays of similar sizes as they sit perfectly flush with the wall and do not bear heavy weight on the wall. This simple two-piece solution dramatically reduces installation time, yet provides outstanding video quality in rooms with high ambient light." statedMatt Christensen, product champion. Read more
