Yamaha Brings Theater Surround Sound to a PC Near You!

Dec. 14 -- Yamaha announces the new, high performance TSS-1 Theater Surround System designed to deliver true home theater surround sound experience to personal computers and portable audio and video players. With its elegant, compact size, the TSS-1 delivers the ultimate 3D surround-sound experience with built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoding while its elegant compact design complements any decor, allowing it to fit anywhere. The TSS-1 Theater Surround Sound System includes five satellite speakers, a wood subwoofer, and a dedicated amplifier with master volume and individual level controls. The TSS-1 will be available in late-December 2000 at an affordable estimated street price of $229.99.
With true 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, the TSS-1 allows you to play popular DVD movies on your computer the exact way they were meant to be seen and heard at peak audio performance levels. In its 4.1 Channel Game Surround Mode, it is designed to deliver a larger-than-life dimension to any PC game audio. In its Virtual Surround Mode, the TSS-1 brings 3D stereo sound to any portable stereo system. Multimedia presentations and Internet applications can also benefit from TSS-1's performance edge by allowing the system to bring the audio segments to life with its enhanced built-in surround sound effects. "DTS is the only 5.1 surround sound format that delivers a revolutionary 3D experience through new music recordings on compact discs, original 5.1 soundtracks on motion picture laserdiscs and a wide variety of products on DVD," states Allen H. Gharapetian, product and marketing manager, Consumer Products Division. "With DTS you can hear the sound exactly as it was intended, without the limitation and degradation of analog sound or conversion process."

With 48 watts of output power (RMS), the TSS-1 is engineered to take complete advantage of Yamaha's patented Active Servo Technology (YST), which optimizes the interaction of the amplifier, enclosure and speaker to deliver deep bass that's impossible to achieve with conventional technology on the market. The resulting sound features a deep, smooth, low-frequency response, allowing the TSS-1 to generate a significantly wider frequency range than other similarly sized and powered systems.

The TSS-1 delivers clear 3D sound from 20 kHz all the way down to 40 Hz. Its 5-in., 18-watt subwoofer and 2-in. 6-watt satellites are all magnetically shielded to ensure that they won't interfere with other equipment no matter where they are placed. The satellites also have an adjustable angle base for optimal listening pleasure. A headphone jack allows for private listening. For more information on the new TSS-1 visit Yamaha at www.yamaha.com.
