TV Guide and Genius Products Launch TV Guide DVD Collection
November 2004 – TV Guide Magazine Group, Inc., the worldwide leader in television entertainment news and information for more than 50 years, announced that it is bringing the expertise of its powerful brand in on-screen entertainment to the fast-growing genre of TV shows on DVD.
TV Guide’s DVD licensee, Falcon Picture Group, has an exclusive distribution agreement with Genius Products, Inc. (OTCBB: GNPI), through which Genius Products will launch a new line of classic television series on DVD with the retail debut of the TV Guide collection, featuring many of the most popular programs from television’s golden era, available in the latest digital format.
The TV Guide DVD collection launches with seventy-two classic episodes of America’s favorite television programs, available September 21, 2004 in six individual collections, including: Classic Comedies, Classic Westerns, Classic Detectives, Classic Television, The Andy Griffith Show and The Cisco Kid. Each collection will be offered as a 12-episode, 2-DVD set or as six episodes on one DVD. A second collection is set for release this October 2004.
Designed to be the definitive DVD offering for fans of the best programming in TV history, the TV Guide collection was created with the help of the renowned magazine’s senior editors who provided unique insight into each digitally re-mastered and sound-enhanced collection. The colorful packaging follows TV Guide’s new “test pattern” theme introduced in its 2004 EFFIE Awards-winning ad campaign, which embodies the fun, new personality of TV Guide. Extra features on each DVD include fun trivia questions with answers and additional commentary from the same TV Guide editors who chose the episodes for the collection. Each DVD also includes a special offer to subscribe to TV Guide magazine.
“TV Guide brand DVDs are a natural step in the evolution of the TV Guide brand,” said Steve Scebelo, Senior Vice President, TV Guide Licensing. “We are excited to see the first assortment of DVDs from Genius Products begin shipping to leading retailers nationwide, and look forward to many more exciting, new releases in the coming months.”
“TV Guide is one of the most trusted resources for television information for over 50 years. The magazine’s editors are the perfect resources to help hand pick the best series and episodes from America’s extensive legacy of classic television entertainment,” said Klaus Moeller, CEO of Genius Products. “We are thrilled to offer these wonderful collections of all-family entertainment at affordable prices. Now fans everywhere can build their own exciting collection of television content on DVD.”
Distributed nationwide through the Genius Products Branded Distribution Network (BDN), the marketing campaign for the launch of the TV Guide collection includes a direct response television campaign and advertising placements in TV Guide magazine.
TV Guide brand DVDs will also be sold through the TV Guide Store (http://shop.tvguide.com), which provides licensees with the potential to sell directly to TV Guide’s weekly audience of 100 million entertainment enthusiasts.
TV Guide’s relationship with Falcon Pictures and Genius Products is managed by SloaneVision Unlimited, Inc., TV Guide’s licensing agency. SloaneVision will monitor the retail sell-in of the TV Guide DVD collections, and will continue to work with TV Guide and Genius Products on the development and retail launch of additional DVDs.
