Toshiba Announces New 3.2 Megapixel Digital Camera for $349

Toshiba PDR-3300 June 5, 2002 -- Toshiba Imaging Systems announces it is shipping to retailers the new PDR-3300, a 3.2 megapixel digital camera that presents consumers with an affordable means to experience high-quality digital photography. "With an MSRP of only $349, our new PDR-3300 puts digital imaging excellence well within reach of budget-conscious shoppers," said Doug Freck, Vice President & General Manager, Toshiba Imaging Systems Division. "Building upon the success and popularity of our PDR-M71 digital camera introduced last year, the PDR-3300 combines a host of important legacy features with all the advantages of SecureDigital storage and a wireless remote control, a first for a Toshiba camera."

Designed as the next generation of the popular PDR-M71, the PDR-3300 retains and improves upon the features that resulted in PC World recognizing the PDR-M71 with its World Class Award in this year's "digital cameras under $500" category. It joins the entire family of Toshiba digital cameras including the newly introduced PDR-3310 and PDR-T10 models.

FEATURE-LADEN PERFORMANCE
The PDR-3300 makes a striking impression with its highly polished black and slate gray color scheme. Cleverly combining its good looks with an arsenal of photography tools, the camera produces crystal-clear pictures while retaining rich, true-to-life colors. Employing a 1/1.8 inch, 3.2 million pixel CCD the camera gives digital photographers greater edge detail in picture file sizes up to 2048 x 1536 pixels.

Although it maintains the operational simplicity of a point-and-shoot camera, the PDR-3300 is equipped with functions that make it attractive to the more experienced shutterbug. These include a Canon all-glass lens with a focal length equivalent of 35mm to100mm on a 35mm camera; a 2.8 optical zoom, 2.2x digital zoom and a Macro mode for dramatic close-ups; a five-mode flash system; Aperture-priority AE, Shutter-priority AE and Full Manual AE; Manual White Balance and Exposure Compensation (+/- 2.0 at 0.3EV); ISO sensitivity (100/200/400); and enhanced signal processing technology for smooth burst mode shooting.

Additional features include a optical viewfinder, a 1.6 inch (60K pixels) LCD monitor for playback (2x zoom, slide show, movie, thumbnail modes), USB connectivity for super-fast downloading, and Epson PRINT Technology.

The camera records JPEG images at three compression modes -- Fine, Normal and Basic -- and in three resolution settings (2048 x 1536, 1024 x 768, 640 x 480). Depending on the compression and resolution selected, the PDR-3300 can record from 5 to 102 images on the bundled 8MB SD card. The camera is compatible with SD media up to 256MB that can store as many as 3,901 images on a single, postage-stamp sized card.

Like Toshiba's new PDR-3310 model, the PDR-3300 offers the multifunctionality to capture AVI video clips (PAL/NTSC) in addition to superior digital stills. Video can be shot at QVGA (320 x 240) or Q2VGA (160 x 120) resolution at frame rates up to 15 FPS. As many as 180 seconds of AVI video can be stored on a single 8MB SD card.

Another distinction of the PDR-3300 is its wireless remote control that conveniently gives users the option of shooting up to ten feet away from the camera.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The PDR-3300 is immediately available at leading retailers with an MSRP of $349. It comes bundled with 8MB SD card, USB cable, video cable, hand strap, remote control, and a CD-ROM loaded with award-winning ACD Systems imaging software, USB driver and instruction manual. Toshiba backs the PDR-3300 with a one-year warranty.

With dimensions of 4.53" x 2.72" x 1.8", the PDR-3300 weighs in at 8.1 ounces. It is powered by 4XAA alkaline batteries with an expected life of 100 shots when using the flash or 150 shots when not using the flash.
