The White Balance Solution For Digital and Film Cameras and Camcorders

December 2003--Using the ExpoDisc is the easiest way to get perfect white balance and accurate exposures on the first shot. The patented ExpoDisc eliminates the need for gray cards and hand-held meters. Neutral tones become more pleasing because all colors are brought into balance at point of capture. Here is how it works.
The ExpoDisc is a diffusion filter with compensating filters sandwiched inside-- each one is individually tested on the color analyzer to correct the white balance before completing the final assembly. Under “pure daylight”, the ExpoDisc image would be R128, G128, B128, and look like a neutral gray card. Selecting this as your custom WB tells the camera, and conversion software, what a neutral gray looks like.

The camera and software now know by measuring the RGB values in the image how much the values deviate from R128, G128, B128. At this point, the camera and/or software adds the opposite colors in the right amount to make the gray look gray again. The performance level of all cameras is dramatically improved when used in conjunction with the ExpoDisc for color management.
