The 'Next Big Quake' Hits North America This JanuaryNov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Agetec, Inc., a leading publisher of video games, today announced the Company's plans to ship Disaster Report for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system on January 14, 2003 in the United States and Canada. Published under the name Zettai Zetsumei Toshi in Japan, Disaster Report earned critical acclaim and garnered top rankings in Famitsu Weekly Magazine upon its Spring 2002 release. Created by IREM Software Engineering, the developers behind such classic games as the R-Type series, Disaster Report delivers an original twist on the survival action-adventure genre. Unlike other games in this category, players are pit against nature in a heart-racing battle to stay alive. The game is set on man-made island called Capital City, built by the government as a means of managing resources, communications, commerce and an ever-growing population. Cast in the role of a young newspaper reporter, each player arrives at Capital City just as a massive earthquake strikes the island, setting off a chain of destruction and catastrophic events. Given no obvious weapons or tools, the player must explore, collect items, and employ ingenuity to solve puzzles and conserve life-sustaining resources. The outcome is determined by the items collected and lives saved, resulting in one of seven possible endings. "As a California-based company, we are only too aware of the challenges and fear that occur when an earthquake hits," said Kevin Sullivan, Agetec VP of Sales and Marketing. "Such a catosphrophic event provides an original setting and unique opponent for the popular survival-adventure game genre. Disaster Report also gives us the opportunity to make people aware of important real-world survival tips in the event of such a natural disaster." Disaster Report utilizes the S-Force 3D Sound Library, a sound middleware developed for PlayStation 2 titles by the Sony Corporation. The S-Force 3D Sound Library, first used in the game Silent Hill 2, reproduces dynamic, three-dimensional sound through two-channel speakers, enhancing the realism of the experience. The game is also compatible with the Sony DUALSHOCK analog controller. Published exclusively for the PS2 game console, Disaster Report will be available for a suggested retail price of $49.99.
