The New Agfa CD-Burning Robot

September 2002 — Agfa just introducee a new CD-Burning Robot at photokina for use with its digital minilabs. The robot is connected by the plug-and-play method to the workstation linked to the minilab. It imports the image data that the minilab generates and uses it to automatically record an Agfa Pix CD as part of a print order.

The CD-Burning Robot prints a picture index and the job number right on the CD-ROM. The index pictures on the CD-ROM also facilitate archiving for the customer.

The Agfa Pix CD contains the images in various resolutions: high for print reorders, medium for e-mailing or on-screen viewing and low for thumbnails used for a better overview. Customers can view the images with the viewer software also provided on the CD-ROM. When producing the Pix CD, the operator can choose between optimum capacity and maximum image quality.

Various models of the Agfa CD-Burning Robot are available, differing in terms of capacity and the method by which the CD-ROMs are printed. The two models with a capacity of roughly 30 CD-ROMs per hour are best suited to the Agfa d-lab.2 and Agfa d-lab.3.

Operators of an MSC.d have the option of scanning films on an external scanner (such as the Sony UY-S100). The Agfa software then sends the data to the CD-Burning Robot, which automatically produces an Agfa Pix CD for every order it receives, including the picture index and the order number.
